To all whom it may concern 1 I Be it known that I, JOHN J. lVINGRAvE, a citizen of the United States, residing'at New Orleans, in the parish of Orleans and State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mop I-Iolders, of which tlie follo wing is a specification.

My invention relates to new and useful improvements in mop holders and has for the primary object thereof, to provide such an article of manufacture that is a substantial improvement over articles of this nature, with which I am familiar.

The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detailed description is read in con-- nection with the accompanying drawings, the invention residing in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as claimed.

In the drawings forming part of this application, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, and wherein Figure 1 is an elevational view of a mop holder constructed in accordance with the present invention.

Figure 2 is an elevational View of one end of my improved mop holder.

Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view taken substantially upon the line 3-3 of Figure 1, and looking downwardly in the direction of the arrows.

Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 44 of Figure 1.

As clearly shown. in the drawings, my device is to be associated with any desirable form of wooden handle A, the device including a neck or socket portion 5 adapted for positioning upon one end of the handle A, and being rigidly secured thereon by a cross bolt 6, the screw threaded end of which projects outwardly of the neck or socket for receiving thereon a. wing nut 7.

The neck or socket 5 is integrally formed upon the central portion of a cross strip or bar 8, the ends of which extend downwardly and at right angles to the said cross strip, and are designated at 9 and 10. Also formed upon this cross strip or bar 8, and upon the under surface thereof. is a web 11 secured to the strip 8 and joining the arms 9 and 10. forming a strengthening section for the member 8, the bottom edge of which is serrated or toothed as at 12.

The opposite end of the jaw 14: has pivotally secured thereto as at 16, a locking lever 17, which lever constitutes the vertical portion 18, a horizontal portion 19', and another vertical portion 20, this last mentioned vertical portion adapted to receive a ring or sleeve 21 thereoier for retaining the jaw 1 1 in locked engagement. This ring or sleeve 21 is of such dimensions to readily permit the same to engage over the before mentioned wing nut 7 on the cross bolt 6 when it is desired to release the locking lever 18 for subsequently swinging the jaw 14 away from the stationary jaw 11, and it is to be noted that the end of this swinging jaw 14 which carries said locking lever projects outwardly from the downwardly bent end 10 of the cross strip 8, this downwardly bent end being slotted as at 22 for this purpose.

In View of the above description, it will at once be apparent that when it is de sired to secure a mop within my mop holder, the jaw M may be swung outwardly of the head 11 for permitting of the insertion of the mop; By closing the swinging jaw 14' and positioning the locking lever 18 as shown in Figure 1, the mop will be firmly retained between the two jaws by engaging the sleeve. 21 over the vertical portion 20 of the said locking lever.

IVhile I have herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of the present invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minorchanges may be made therein, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
