To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, JOHN PRITCHARD, of Maysville, in the county of De Kalb and State of Missouri, have invented a new and Improved Document-Envelope, of which the fol lowing is a specification:

The object of my invention is to furnish a document envelope or holder that takes up small space, expands and contracts with the papers placed therein, adapting itself readily to any thickness of the same, inclosing them against sight and dust, and admitting the convenient handling of the papers Without danger of their falling out.

The invention consists of an interior fold or pocket, open at the sides and closed at the ends, that is applied to an outer inclosing wrapper by being firmly attached at one side and connected by an adjustable band or piece at the other side.

In the drawing, A represents the interior pocket or fold, and B the exterior inclosingwrapper, which are both made of paper of suitable strength, or of paper partly or entirely lined or re-enforced with other material, so that a durable envelope is produced. On the outside of thewrapper the lettering or printing required for the different applications is arranged. The interiorpocket A is open at the sides and closed at the ends, being pasted or otherwise firmly secured near its middle part to the inside center part of the inclosingwrapper B, so that the other side may be readily opened and spread out to any width for placing any thickness and number of papers therein. The opposite side of fold A is attached to the adjoining side flap of the wrappers by a flexible band or piece, 0, that adjusts itself readily to the thickness of the fold and connects the same to the wrapper in such a manner that no papers can fall out during the handling of the envelope. The ends of the inside fold or pocket may be made longer, when it is desired, that a great number of papers shall be held therein, or folded with one or more re-entrant folds, so as to allow of greater expansion. The outer wrapper is folded around the inside pocket when the papers are placed therein, and the whole closed by a rubber band, D, which is applied to the other side flap of the wrapper by a long metallic strip, E, which allowsthe ready sliding of the band to either end of the same. so as to be more easily drawn over the ends of the envelope when opening or closing the same. The strip is fastened by turning down the ends to the inside, or in any other secure manner, by which the tearing out of the strip or band is prevented. In place of the fasteningstrip any equivalent device for retaining the band and applying it in convenient manner.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A document envelope or holder, composed of interior fold 0r pocket, open at the sides and closed at the ends, being attached to the inclosing-wrapper firmly at one side and by an adjustable connecting-band at the other, to expand and contract with the thickness of the papers, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
