vide a building of the class described with a novel arrangement of ramp drives and driveways whereby theascending and de scending streams of traffic will be independent of each other.
A further object of the invention is to provide a building of theclass described in which any one of the several floors thereof may be locked 01f from the remainder of the floors in case of fire, while permitting the removal of the vehicles from the other floors above and below the locked off floor.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a building of the class described having the novel design, construction and arrangement of elements described in detail in the following specification and illus' trated in the accompanying drawings.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, the numeral 2 designates the outside walls of the building which is preferably of substantially rectangular outline and may be of any desired height. The building is divided into a plurality of floors 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8, although .it will be understood that the-number of floors will vary with the hei ht of the building.

Driveways 15 and 16 extend from the front of the building rearwardly along each side of the lobby space 11 to ascending and desclending ramp drives 17 and 18, respective y.
Stairs 19 are provided connecting each of the several floors.
The descending ramp drive 18 curvesother end of the building and is inclined up I wardl along the rear wall of-the building over t e drive 18 and at the same degree of inclination as the ramp drive 18. However,
instead of terminating at the second floor the drive 17 extends from the first floor to the third floor 5 and curves inwardly to the third floor from a point adjacent said floor.
A second descending ramp drive 20 extends from the second floor 4 upwardly to the fourth floor 6. The drive 20 communicates with the second floor at a point directly over the drive 17 and parallels said drive 17 upwardly at the same degree of inclination and communicates with the fourth floor at a point directly over the point where the drive 17 communicates with the third floor-5.
- A second ascending ramp drive 21 starts from the third floor 5 at a point directly over the oint where the drive 20 communicates wit the second floor 4 and parallels the drive 20 upwardly at the same degree of inclination to the fifth floor 7, where it enters the floor 7 directly over the point where the drive 20 enters the fourth floor 6.
A third descending ramp drive 22 extends from the fourth floor 6 upwardly to the sixth and last floor 8. The drive 22 communicates with the fourth floor 6 at a point directly above where the drive 21 communiint where the drive 21 with the fifth floor 7 and extends upwardly parallel with the drive 22 at the same degree of inclination to a point midway between the ends of the drive 22 at which point the drive 23 turns or curves inwardly to enter the sixth and last floor.
The ingoing or ascending ramp drives 17, 21 and 23 are connected by driveways 24 on the third and fifth floors of the building, while the descending ramp drives 18, and 22 are connected by driveways on the second and fourth floors. From the above it will be readily appreciated that the series of ascending ramp drives 17, 21 and 23 and their connecting driveways 24 and the series of descending ramp drives 18, 21 and 22 and their connecting driveways 25 are entirely separate so that the ascending and descending lines of trafiic will never conflict with each other.
A fire wall 28' along the 'forward face of the drive 18 together with partition walls 29 and 30 along the driveway 16 entirely enclose the drive 18 from the first fioor except at the exit end of the driveway 16, where a fire door 31 is provided. A second fire door 31 is provided to close the ramp drive 18 and prevent fire from the second floor reaching the first floor.
A fire wall 32 separates the ramp drive 17 from the second floor, except for an entrance opening 33 which permits ascending cars to enter the second floor. and this opening is closed by a fire door 34. A pair of other fire doors 35 and 36 are provided to be moved across the drive 17 and prevent fire from the first fioor ascending the drive to the second or third fioors and to prevent fire from the third floor descending to the second or first floors.
A fire wall 37 separates the ramp drive 20 from the third floor. except for an exit opening 38 which permits descending cars to enter the drive from the third floor and this opening is closed by a fire door 39. A pair of other fire doors 40 and 41 are provided to be moved across the drive 20 and prevent fire from the second floor ascending the drive to the third and fourth floors and to prevent fire from the fourth floor from descending the drive to the third and second floors.
A fire wall 42 separates the ramp drive 21 from the fourth floor except for an entrance opening 43 which permits ascending cars to enter the fourth floor, and this opening is closed by a fire door 44. A pair of other fire doors 45 and 46 are provided to be moved across the drive 21 and prevent fire from the third floor ascending the drive to the fourth and fifth floors andto prevent fire from the fifth floor from descending the drive to the fourth and third floors.
A fire wall 47 separates the ramp drive 22 from the fifth floor, except for an exit opening 48 which permits descending cars to enter the drive from the fifth fioor and this opening is closed by a fire door 49. A pair of other fire doors 50 and 51 are provided to be moved across the drive 22 and prevent fire from the fourth floor ascending the drive to the fifth and sixth floors and to prevent fire from the sixth floor from de scending the drive to the fifth and fourth floors.
Fire walls 52 and 53 separate the ramp drive 23 from the sixth floor, except for an entrance opening 54 which permits ascending cars to enter the sixth floor, and this opening is closed by a fire door 55. A second fire door 56 is provided to bemoved across the drive 23 to prevent fire from the fifth floor ascending the drive to the sixth floor.
In case of a fire on any one of the several floors, the several firedoors may be closed which control entrance and exit to that floor and the remaining floors of the building may then he emptied of cars by the use of both the ascending and descending series ramp drives. For instance, if a fire should take place on the fourth floor the fire door 44 will be closed, thus closing the entrance opening 43 communicating with the drive 21, and the fire doors 50 on the drive 22 and 41 on the drive 20 will be closed to prevent the fire from the fifth and third floors, rcspeetively. Closing of the fire doors 50 and 41 will close thedescending drives to cars from the fifth and sixth floors. However, the ascending drives 23 and 21 are open and may be used in an emergency to bring the cars down from the upper floors, since the drive 21 passes right by the fourth floor.
If on the other hand. a fire should take place on the third floor the ascending series of drives only would be closed by closing the fire doors 45 and 36 and the descending drives may all be used for discharging the cars.
In Figures 2 and 3 I have shown floor plans of the second and third floors, respectively. The floor plan of Figure 2 is typical of all the even numbered floors. except the top floor, regardless of the height of the building. The floor plan of Figure 3 is typical of all the uneven numbered floors except the first floor. regardless of the height of the building.
The several floors are each provided with a dividing wall 58 which divides the floors into two compartments, the car stalls or rooms 59 and the driveways 60 and 61 for permitting movement of the cars on the floors.
The top or sixth floor 8 will have a plan the same as that of Figure 3, except that there will be no ramp entering the floor to the left of the entrance 54. thus providing room for more stalls at this point.
While I have shown and described ne lull specific embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that I do not wish to be lim ited thereto, since various modifications may be made without departing. from the scope of my invention as defined in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A structure for housing motor vehicles comprising a plurality of horizontal floors, each of said floors being on the same plane throughout, inclined drives connecting the floors, some of said drives extending from one floor to the second floor above, entrances connecting said last named drives with the intermediate floors, fire walls arranged along said drives, fire doors at said entrances to the intermediate floors, and other fire doors intermediate, the ends of said drives, said fire walls and fire doors being so positioned that any one of the floors on which a fire may take place may be locked oil from the other floors while permitting passage to the other floors.

A structure for housing vehicles comprising a plurality of floors, two series of drives connecting said floors, each of said series of drivesbeing inclined in the same direction, one of said'series of drives including a lower drive extending fromthe first to the second floor of said structure and other drives connecting said second floor with the remaining upper floors of said structure, at least some of said last named drives extending from one -fio0r to the second floor above, said second series of drives being arranged above said first series of drives and including a lower drive extending from the first to the third floor of said structure and other drives connecting said third floor with the remaining upper floors of said structure, at least some of said last named drives extending from' one floor to the second floor above, and entrances connecting all of said drives of both series which extend from one floor to the second floor above, with the floors intermediate the ends thereof, whereby each floor of said structure is served by both 'of said series of drives.
5.
