UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
REBECCA STMITH, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO JOSEPH F. PUGLIESE.
WASI IBGILER.
Application filed October 21, 1926.
This invention relates generally to wash boilers used for washing clothes and the like, the invention having more particular reference to a novel typeot' double wash boiler. The invention has for an object the provision of an improved double wash boiler of novel construction and arrangement otparts.
For further comln'ehension oi the invein tion, and of the objects and advantages lhereot, reference will be had to the following description and accom ninving drawing. and to the appended claims in which the various novel features ot' the invention are more particularly set forth.
Fig. 1, ot' the drawing, is a top plan view of my improved double wash boiler.
Fig. 2, is a longitudinal central sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 8, is a transverse central sectional view taken on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
Fig. l, is a fragmentary sectional view taken on the line 44 of Fig.
As here embodied my improved double 'wash boiler comprises an outer receptacle 10, adapted to hold or contain water, preferably t oval shaped hollow construction. The receptacle has attached thereto, handles 11.
The inner receptacle 12, of similar construction to the above mentioned outer receptacle 10, is of suitable size to be placed inside the receptacle 10, so as to provide spaces 13 and 14, at the ends and sides,v respectively of the inner receptacle 12. The inner receptacle 12 is pertorated, as at 15, by a plurality of apertures formed therein, and positioned relatively adjacent to the bottom of the inner receptacle 12. The above described. constructioi'i being such as will permit the clothes or the like. to be boiled, and which are placed in the inner receptacle 12, to be saturated by the water placed in the receptac-lo 10, when the inner receptacle 12 is lowered in the receptacle 10.
The crank 16, provided with a handle element 17, is rotatively mounted in-the recep taole 10, and has attached thereto, a bevel pinion 18, meshingwith the bevel pinion 19, attached to the screw shaft 20. The screw shaft is rot-atively mounted in extended elements or lugs 21 and 22 of the receptacle 10, located adjacent to the top and bottom, respectively of the receptacle 10. The bevel pinion 23 is attached to the screw shaft 20, and meshes with a bevel Serial No. 143,073.
pinion 2l, attached to the shaft 25. rotativelv mounted in the extended elements 22 of the receptacle 10. The bevel pinion 26 is attached to the shaft and meshes with the bevel pinion 27 attached to the fv' shaft 28, rotativelv mounted in th" I (led elements or lugs 21 and of ccptacle 10.
It being understood that the sa nded elements 21 and 22 are lOt't to the top and bottom of: the receptacle 10. directly opposite to the said eJ-Ltcnded elements 2i and 22. at the ends of the said receptacle 10. The ring member 2!), oval slaped, is attached to the bottom of the nner receptacle 12, and has attached thereto and extended therefrom, support members 30, provided with apertures adapted to slid ably engage the guide rods 31 and at tached to the extended elements 21 and and to the extended elements 21 and 22, of the receptacle 10. The support members 30, are provided with a threaded aperture. adapted to engage the screw shafts 20 and The above described construction being such as will permit the inner receptacle 12, to be lowered into, or raised from the recep tacle 10, when the crank 16 is turned or rotated by means of the handle element 17.
The door 33. is provided with a recessed portion 34, and has attached thereto, a handle 35, extended over the recessed portion 3%. The door 33 is slidably positioned in the one side of the inner receptacle 12, and adapted to slidably. engage in the groove 36, formed in the inner receptacle 12, adjacent to the opening formed therein to accommodate the said door The latter deccribed construction being such as will permit the. clothes, desired to be placed in. or ren'ioved from the inner receptacle 12, to be readily removed from the said inner receptacle 12, when the said inner receptacle 12 is in a raised position.
The cover 37, is adapted to slidably en gage inside the inner receptacle 12, so as to enclose or cover the said inner receptacle 12, and has pivotally attached thereto a handle 37'. The cover 37 has slidably attached thereto, catch members 38, provided with handle elements 39. The catch members 38, are adapted to slidably engage apertures 10, formed in the 3 shaped members 41, attached to the inner receptacle 12, and extended therefrom, so as to permit the cover 37, to be held in any desired position in the inner receptacle 12, as may be desired, depending upon the quantity or amount of clothes, or the like, placed in the said inner receptacle 12. i
The cover a2, is adapted to enclose, or cover the receptacle 10, when the inner receptacle 12, is in a lowered position, so as to prevent the escape of steam from the receptacle 10 and the inner receptacle 12.
' While I have above described the pre ferred form, construction and arrangement of the several elements employed, it will be understood'that the dev'ce is, nevertheless,
susceptible of considerable modification therein, and I therefore reserve the privi--- lege of resorting to all such changes as may be fairly embodied with the spirit and scope p Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is as follows r 1. In a device of the class described, the combination with an outer receptacle, of an inner receptacle having an opening in one side, there being a groove provided adjacent the opening, a door with a handle, slidably engaged in the groove for upward and downward movements and forming a closure for said opening, and means for hoisting the inner receptacle with respect to the outer receptacle so that with the inner receptacle in a raised position, clothes within the inner receptacle may be removed through the said side opening by raising the said door.
2. In a device of the classdescribed, the combination with an inner receptacle, of an outer receptacle provided on its inner side with lugs near the top and bottom thereof,
screw shafts rotatively and vertically mounted in the lugs, a bevel gear secured to the upper end of one of the screw shafts, a crank mounted in the outer receptacle, a bevel pinion secured to one end of the crank, and meshing with the bevel gear, other bevel gears secured to the lower ends of the screw shafts, a shaft horizontally mounted in the lower lugs, bevel pinions on the last mentioned shaft, meshing with bevel gears on the lower ends of the screw shafts, guide rods attached to the lugs, support members slidably mounted on the guide rods, and threadedly engaging the said screw shafts, and
means attached to the bottom of the inner I have affixed my REBEGCA SMITH.
