BISUTTI PIETRO FU NATALE CEMENT MOLDING APPARATUS Filed May 1926 2 Sheets-Sheet Patented Jan. 3, 1928. I 1 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BIS'UTTI PIETRO FU NATALE; OF PORDENONE, ITALY.
CEMENT-MOLDING APPARATUS.
Application filed May 21, 1926. Serial No. 110.687.
This invention relates to cement molding The ears are so arranged that they interlap, apparatus, one within the other, as indicated in Figure Objects of this invention are to provide a 2, and this scheme is followed throughout cement molding apparatus which may be the entire device. It will be seen, therefore, 60 used to form pillows or posts either of solid that by the ar angement or the ears carried construction or with a hollow center. by the plates and by the corner members, Further objects are to provide an apparasuch plates are rigidly held against motion tus for molding cement to form pillows either inwardly or outwardly. which are so constructed that both the body After the desired adjustment or size of 65 portion and the core may be extended or the member has been secured, the corner contracted as desired, and in which these members are pressed closely into engagement parts are so made that they may be opened with the plates, and the pins 3 are driven up to receive additional plates to thus ininto place, thus locking the bars or straps crease their size and to provide eliective 4 tightly to the corner members and holding 70 means for holding the composite body porthe parts or" the body portion or outer portion and core OI the device rigidly in assemtion of the device rigidly in assembled pobled position. i sition.
Further objects are to provide a cement It is to be noted that the bars 4 are promolding device which is very simple and vided with apertures 8 adjacent their ends may be cheaply and readily produced, and by means of which they may be bolted to which is easy to handle. other similar bars to thus permit a greater .Embodiments 01" the invention are shown extension of the body portion. in. the accompanying drawings, in which: Referring now to the core portion of the Figure 1 is a plan view of the device. device, it willbe seen th uch core por- Figure2is asectional view approximately tion is formed of corner members 9, and on the line 22 of Figure 1. that these corner members are adapted to Figure 3 is a sectional view approximately receive extension plates 10 between them. on the line 33 of Figure 1.. The corner members 9 are provided with Figure d is an elevation of a corner porpairs of ears 11, and the extension plates tion of the device when it is modified to 10 are similarly provided with pairs of ears form a different type of pillow. 12, as most clearly shown in Figure 2. Thus Figure 5 is asectional view on the line the core portion of the apparatus may be 5 5 f Figure 4. extended in a manner similar to the body Referring to the drawings, it will be seen portion. o that the device comprises a main body por- Other means, however, are employed for tion and a core portion. The body portion holding the core portion in its assembled is formed of four corner members 1 which position, and such means comprise spaced are of plate or sheet metal. These corner plates 13 (see Figure 3) which receive bemembers are each provided with U-shaped tween them a slotted tongue 14;. This tongue guides or clips 2 which are apertured and is drawn inwardly by means of the tapered are adapted to receive tapered pins 3. The pin or wedge 15. The outer end of the guides 2 receive straps or bars 4 which are tongue carries a chain 16 which is adapted located outside of the main portion of the to be hooked over the hook 17, a plate 18 device, as shown in Figure 1, and arelocked carried by the diagonally opposite corner 100 to the respective corner portion by means of portion (see Figures 1 and 3). In other the pins 3, when such pins are driven downwords, two 01 the corner portions carry the wa rdl y into binding engagement. These spaced plates and the other two carry the corner portions 1 are eachproyided with single plates provided with hooks. pairs of ears 5-, one pair of which is very In adjusting this core portion, the r i- 105 clearly shown in Figure 2. These ears are site size of number of spacing plates 10 are arranged on the outer side of the corner positioned and the chains are passed over members. 1 and are adapted to engage the the hook 17 at the approximate adjustment outer face of the extension plates 6, such required. Thereafter, the wedges or pins extension plates being positioned between 15 are driven into place, thus, drawing the 119 the corner members. These extension plates cia-ins tight and holding the core portion are similarly provided with pairs of ears 7. rigidly locked and braced.
' Asshown in Figure 1, it may be desirable to provide cut away portions torthe corners of the cores. This is readily secured by shaping the corner members 9 as shown in Figure 1. Obviously, othenshapescould be employed.
If it desired to provide apostwith cut 3 away corners, it is merely necessary to em- I ploy the construction shown in Figures l and proximatelysquare sections, it is clear that they may be adjusted for other rectangular ..sections by the proper selection of spacing plates.
It is also clear that any number or these spacing'plates may be used, or that the spacing plates maybe of different sizes although it. is preferable tohave a large number of spacing plates'so that the device may be built up as desired. I
It will be seen that a 'verysimple and serviceable type of'molding device for -ce- 'ment' has been provided which may be rapid- ;ly'used to form posts either hollow or solid. Fiirther,'it is to be noted that the side bars 4 form efiicient handles for lifting the mold out of place. Furthen'the core may be readily removed by grasping the chains 16 and sliding the core-upwardly.
"It is=to be'n'oted also that the device is rugged and cannot be readily damaged. When it is appreciated that these devices are subjected to great abuse'in the ordinary service in whichthey are used, it is clearthat this -feature is highly desirable.
"Further, it will be seen that 'the'xdevice may be very cheaply manufactured as it is relatively simple, and that it "is composed offa relatively small number of parts.
Althou'gh the invent-i on has been described in considerabledetail, such description'is intended as illustrative rather than limiting as theinventi'on maybe variously embodied and as the scope of such invention is to be determined as claimed.
7 I claim:
1. A cement molding apparatus comprisingan outer. body member and an inner core member, said outer body member and said inner-core member each having corner portions, and: intermediate plates betweensaid corner portions, said plates and'said corner portions each having a series of ears for holding such portionsin relative position, and means for locking the corner portions against outward separation.
111* a cement molding apparatus, the combination of a plurality of corner membershai'ing"guides thereon, bars passing through said guides and extending from one cornermember to the next corner member,
intermediate plates located between said corner n'ien'ibers, and means for locking said guides to said bars. 1
3. In a cement molding apparatus, the
combination of corner members, U-fsh'a'ped combination or corner membersfU-shaped guides rigidly carried ,by'said corner members and projecting outwardly therefrom, liars passing through said U-shaped guides, said guides having aperturesItherethrough, tapered pins passing through said apertures for locking said guides tosaid bars','intermediate plates positioned between said corner members, and tongues carried bysaid plates and said corner membersfor holding said plates in posit-ion. p j
5. In a cement m'olding apparatus, the combination of corner members, chains extcndingdiagonally from one corner member to the other, intermediate plates located between said corner members, and means for tensioning said chains, while said-intermediate members remain stationary.
6. In a cement molding 1apparatus, the combination of :tour corner mem'bers,'twoof said corner members having spaced plates provided withjapertures withthe diagonally opposed corner members having plates provided. with hooks, chains carried]by"said hooks and extending diagonally towards the corresponding pair of spaced plates, a slotted plate carried by the free end of each of said chains and located between said spaced plates, wedges passing through said spaced plates andsaid slotted plates for tensioning said chains, said corner members being spaced apart, removable intermediate plates located between said cornermembers; and means for -holding said intermediate plates against lateral displacement. v I
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand at Milan,"Italy.
