The figure is a side elevationlof the car. Referring to the drawing, l indicates the the accomlplatform of a car, of the general type employed in transporting cane and like commodities, which are customarily loaded in the harvest fields and conveyed to the mill or other point of deposit. The car is provided with end walls 2, which may be of the usual y 'type comprising corner posts and cross planking between the posts,the sides of the cars between the endvwalls being open'and unobstructed.

In cars of this general type, it has been customary to provide the sides with stakes' supported atintervals in Vstake pockets, or with hinged side walls adapted to be swung 'out to release the load. These types of cars have been found objectionable, when em-` ployed with the usual machine loaders, because of the size and weight ofthe bundles of cane or the like, which'are deposited by the machines on the cars. The present invention avoids the objections and difficulties incident to the so-called stake cars and box cars and provides a simple, light, strong and durable retaininof means, disposed onA each side of the car netween the end walls, as follows: Y Y
