Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 designates a table supported .by legs 2. The table has a pair of pallets 3 and at extending centrally and longitudinally of said table and spaced from each other to receive a division plate 5. This division plate is secured in position by angle irons 6 that extend vertically between the pallets S :and 41' and terminate in a plane which passes through the upper "edges of the side plates 7 and 'Sof the inold. Each of the :sidejplates are limited in theirhing'ed increment by means of bars H rigidly connected at their upper ends to the side plates 7 and 8. Asshown in Figure 3 the lQWGJ'l'QDClSfiif the lhars are spaced from the adjusting plates 10 :and are bent outx'va-rdly from the side plates :so that when said side plates are tiltedontwardlyithetree ends of the bars 14. willeqengagelthe adjustment plate and limit the swingingmove ment of the side plates. An end plate has an internal flange 16 bent koutwardly and a straight portion abutting the end of side plate 8 A hinge 18 secured tothe flange 16 connects theiendplate to one end of the side plate 7. The opposite ends :01 the side plates 7 and 8 are closed ,by ineans of an end plate 28 having iii-bent ribs pro jecting into the molds and 7 adapted to form V-shaped grooves 81 in one end of the blocks 27 which are adapted to fit the V-shaped ribs 30 at the opposite ends of alined blocks. The end plate 28 is pivotally connected as shown at 32 to one end of the side plate 7 and is also provided with a lug 19 having an arcuately shaped link 21 carrying at its other end the cam member 23 and an operating arm 24L.
The adjusting plates 10 are slidably mounted on spaced cleats 33, the cleats being secured to the table 1. Angle irons 34 are secured in spaced relation to the side plates 7 and 8 for reinforcing the same, the lower pair of reinforcing angle irons 8% being located adjacent the hinges.
The molding device just described is for the purpose of forming rectangular molds. In order to form concrete blocks of the hollow type I apply cores generally designated by the numeral 36 to the opposite inner faces of the side plates 7 and 8. These cores consist of a piece of sheet metal having a back 37 which is bent around at its ends as shown at 38 and bent inwardly to form attaching flanges 39. These flanges are perforated as are the side plates 7 and 8 and rivets passing through the alined perforations are adapted to secure the flanges 39 and likewise the core 36 to the side plates. Strips of metal 40 cut to conform to the contour of the edges of the plate 37 are secured in any approved manner to the opposite side edges of the plate 37 and prevent the concrete mixture from falling in be tween the side plates 7 and 8 and the bottom 37 of the core 36.
The end plates 15 and 28 are provided. with vertical machined grooves 42 adapted to receive the ends of the division plate 5 for aiding in maintaining the division plate in its proper relation within the mold.
lVhether it is intended to form solid. or hollow blocks the side plates 7 and 8 are placed in position, that is vertically. and the end plates are swung on their hinges 32 until their flanges 17 abut the projecting ends 43 of the reinforcing angle irons 3 1. The links 21 are swung into a position where the cam member 23 will engage the curved lug 25 and the operating arms 2-1 are moved inwardly and the end plates are therefore locked to the side plate 8. The concrete mixture which is of the dry type is packed or tamped in the mold and the smooth straight edges of the side plates 7 and 8 perinit the excess concrete to be readily scraped from the green blocks forming said mold. When the process of forming the block is complete the arms 24 are again swung outwardly, that is towards the links 21 and the cams 23 are released from the curved lugs 25 so that the side plates may move outwardly swinging on the hinges 10 and be limited in their movement by the lower end therein and the adjusting plates 10 moved outwardly after the wing nuts 12 have been released. Due to the different spacing of the side plates 7 and 8 the wider end plates 15 and 28 replace the former end plates. It may be only necessary to remov the pins from the hinges 1S and 32 and shove the section of the leaf of the hinge on the larger end plate into position whence the pins may be returned and complete the hinges.
The blocks which are produced with the use of the cores 36 are formed with grooves at their sides when they are employed in building constructions and properly asso ciated. The adjacent side walls of the blocks form voids. While the blocks in themselves are what we may term solid blocks, yet when properly associated produce in effect a hollow block building construction.
What I claim is:
1. A concrete mold comprising adjusting plates, side plates hingedly connected with the adjusting plates, means for adjustahly spacing the adjustable plates and side plates, end plates hingedly connected to one side plate, and means for releasably locking the opposite ends of the end plates to the other side plate.
2. A concrete mold comprising adjusting plates side plates hingedly connected with the adjusting plates, means for adjustably spacing the adjustable plates and side plates, end plates hingedly connected to one side plate, means for releasably locking the opposite ends of the end plates to the other side plate, and a division plate mounted in a fixed position and located centrally of the side plates.
3. A concrete mold comprising adjust-inc; plates, side plates hingedly connected with the adjusting plates, means for adjustably spacing the adjustable plates and side plates, end plates hingedly connected to one side plate, means forv releasably locking the opposite ends of the end plates to the other side plate, and means for limiting the outward movement of the hinged side plates.
4c. A concrete mold comprising adjustinti' plates. side plates hingedly connected with the adjusting plates, means for adjus'tablv spacing the adjustable plates and side plates, end plates hingedly connected to one side plate, means for releasably locking the opposite ends of the end plates to the other side plate, and cores adapted to be secured to the side plate for forming hollow concrete blocks.
