Description

M. MOORE. BLOCK MOLD. APPLIOATION FILED JUNE19,1913.
IL A. T m, 1 l Pmmwd will 1;;
UNITED sTArss PATENT OFFICE.
MERRILL MOORE, OF CRESTON, IOWA.
BLOCK-MOLD.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that-I, MERRILL Moons, a citizen of the United States of America residing at Creston, in the county of Union and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and. useful Improvements in Block- Molds, of which the following is a specification. v This invention relates to concrete block molds and one of the principal oli'ects of the invention is to provide a mold 0 simple construction which can be connected up in series for receiving the concrete and which can be readily collapsed or withdrawn from the block and which does not require a pallet for supporting the block.
Another object of the invention is to pro" vide a sheet metal mold for building blocks which can be connected up in series to be filled with cement by ouring the same in the molds and which wil not re uire a pallet for supporting the blocks, sai mold being readily removed from the blocks after they have become set.
Still another object of the'invention is to provide a sheet metal mold com rising two side members held spaced apart t 1e required distance by theend members, while the bot-- tom of the mold is formed of a flexible waterproof material which can be readily removed from the blocks after they have been molded and partiall dried'and set.
These an other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a number of block molds connected together in position for use, one of the ends of the mold being broken away; Fig. 2 is a top plan view of one individual mold; Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2 showing the mold filled with concrete; .Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of one of the ends of the mold boxes.
Referrin to the drawing, the numerals 1 designate the side members of the mold box,
said side members being preferabl formed of sheet metal andprovided witi the inwardlyprojecting portions 2 near the center thereof and the inwardly extending flanges 3 at the bottom. Inclined flanges 4 extend from the upper edges of the members 1.
p The ends for se crating one mold from the other consist 0 a flat plate 5 having the Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June 19. 1913. Serial No. 774,683.
Patented Jan.13, 1914..
' Extending across the bottom and resting upon the flanges 3 of the sides 1 is a bottom member 7 cut the required size from a sheet of flexible rubber roofing or similar material.
The manner of usin the molds may be briefly described as 0 lows: Any suitable number of the mold boxes are connected together bythe ends 5 separating one box from the other. The flexib e bottom 7 is placed in position and these boxes are filled by pouring concrete material into them and after they have been filled flush with the upper surface, or nearly so, the faces are finished in any suitable manner and the blocks permitted to dry. When the blocks are in condition to hold their shape without the mold, the latter is removed by removing the end pieces and sides serially from one end to the other of the series of boxes used. thus leaving the blocks resting upon the bot tom members 7. When sufiiciently dried, the members '2 can be readily removed from the block.
From the foregoing, it will be obvious that my invention is simple in construction, can be used quickly for molding poured blOCkSo and can be readily removed from the bloclc when molded. It is also to be noted that I do not use a pallet for molding the blocks and conveying them from place to place. This construction results in considerable saving, both in labor and material.
I claim:
A mold for concrete blocks com rising two side members, said side members aving inwardly extending flanges at their lower ends and inclined flanges at their upper ed es, a flexible bottom for, said mold and en 5 provided with oppositely disposed flanges, said ends adapted to engage the flanges and edges of the side members.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
' MERRILL MOORE.
