Description
J. R. SANTIBEZ ELASTIC SUPPQRTER Filed Oct. v21. 1925 ATTORNEY' Patented Dec. 27, 1927'B tli'\ll'l`l:ll)V STATES JOS RAMREZ SANTIBEZ, OFsAN JUAN, PORTO Rico.
ELASTIC SUPPORTER.
Application filed `October 21, 1925. Serial No. 63,924. i
This invention relates to an elastic supporter for skirts, waists, drawers andv bloomers, and has for its object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a'sup- 5 porter for `removable connection with an article of apparel to permit of the supporter being removed prior to the washing of the garment, under such conditions materially eul'lancing the life of the supporter which l would not be the lcase if the supporter, which is of the elastic type, formed a part of the garment when the latter was washed as the water would spoil the elastic properties of the supporter, so that the supporting or securing function thereof would be destroyed. f
Further objects of the invention are to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, an elastic supporter, which is simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, readily applied to the garment, thoroughly efficient in its use, and inexpensive to manufacture.
lilith the foregoing and other objects in 5 view, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, asv hereinafter more specitically. described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which fall within the scope of the claim hereunto appended.
In the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views:-
Figure 1 is a fragmentary view, in perspective, of a skirt, showing the adaptation therewith of an elastic supporter, in accordance with this invention.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary view of the end terminals of the supporter, in elevation, and further illustrating the coupling means for said end terminal portions and which carried by the garment.
Figure 3 is a section on line 3 3, Figure l. Y
Referring to Figures 1, 2 and of the drawings, 1 denotes a skirt provided with a] waist band 2, which forms a pocket 3 extending entirely through the band. The band 2 is formed of a length of fabric of the desired width, bent upon itself to pro,- vide a front and a rear fold t, 5 respectively, and with the bottoms or free edges ofthe folds secured by stitching 6 to the skirt 1. The band 2 extends above the top edge of the skirt 1 and the folds 4, 5, in connection with the secured bottoms of these latter and the bend y7 provide the pocket 3.' The front fold l is formed with a button-hole 8 for the passage of a button 9, which is secured by a stitching 10 to thev inner face of the rear fold 5.y The button 9, in connection. with the stitching 10 provides a coupling means for connecting the end terminal portions of the supporter, to be presently referred to, in position. y y
The supporter is referred to generally by the reference character 11 and which is formed from a strip 12 of elastic'webbing or an elastic strap of any suitable material,
and which is of less width than the height of the pocket 3.
` The strip or strap 12 is positioned in the pocket 3 and the length thereof is less than the circumference of the pocket. Each end of the strip or strap 12 has connected thereto, by a stitching 13, a flexible cord 14. The ends ofl the cord are secured by the stitching 13 and each end is positioned in proximity to a lengthwise edge of the strip or strap 12, thereby providing a loop 15. The loops 15 provide means for detachably connecting Athe supporter 11 to the coupling means in extended or stretched positiom' whereby the waistband 2 will snugly it the waist of the wearer and the skirt will be held in supported position. lhen the ends of the supporter are connected together by the coupling means, the button 9 is positioned exteriorly of the fold 4:. n
Although the elastic supporter is illustrated .by way of example iii-connection with the waist band of a skirt, yet it is to be understood that it can be removably connected to any type of garment for which it is found applicable and also to the lower ends of the legs of bloomers.
Then the garment, with which they supporter' isr ueed, is to be washed, the supporter is removed therefrom, under such conditions the life of the supporter is materially increased, and it is thought the many advantages of a removable elastic supporter, in accordance with this invention, can be readily understood, and although the preferred embodiments of the invention are asr illustrated anddescribedpyet it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction can be had which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
Thatclaim is n combination, a Waist lean-d 'formed with an endless pocket having its front Wall slitted to form a combined button-hole and pocket entrance, a button overlapping,` said slit and positioned against the outer face ot such Wall, Horrible means extending through said slit and secured to the rear Wall of the pocket for anchoring the button against the outer face of said front Wall, an elastic element of strap-like form mounted in said pocket and Capable of being' '15 stretched to extend substantially throughout the latter, a pair of Cords, eaeli projecting from an end edge of said element and bent uponitsel in spaced relation, the end tei:- minal port-ions of each Cord positioned against an end terminal portionof the outer 'face of said element, and means for 'ixedly securing the end terminal portions of each oord in spaced relation against the outer face ol said element to provide a loop `lor the passage oit the button to detaelialoly7 conneet said element within the pocket to said flexible means.
ln testimony whereof, aliix my signature hereto. Y Y
