UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE SAMUEL sTONE, OF NORTH MANCHESTER, OONNEOTIOUT.
IMPROVEMENT IN PlPE-TONGS,
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 165,271, dated July 6, 1875; application filed September 21, 1874.
1' 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, SAMUEL STONE, of North Manchester, county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvement in Grappling- Tongs; and to enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same I will proceed to describe, referring to the drawing, in which the sa'me letters indicate like parts.
The nature of this invention consists in makinn; the tongs first in the common way. Then in the face of the jaws, which close together flush in the common way, are formed circular depressions and grappling-teeth, so that when rod or calk it may be easily and quickly removed.

By the use of this instrument various sized calks may be held and turned securely and firmly in a sh0e,and by turning the tongs over and placing it Onto the calk and turned in the opposite direction the call: can be easily and quickly removed, and may be conveniently done while on the road.
