Description

rrEn TATES PATENT QFFIGE.
PETER MEYER, OF IOWVA CITY, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN SASH-FASTENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent'No. 164,750, dated June 22,1875; application filed May 22, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER MEYER, of Iowa City, Johnson county, Iowa, have invented a the window frame or casing, and O the spring band or latch, which is screwed or otherwise fastened by its flattened upper. end to the sash-frame, bearing by its middle part toward the window-frame, and being curved at its lower part into a handle, to be readily taken hold of when raising or lowering the sash. The middle part of the spring band or latch has a perforation, G, that locks by its spring action on pins D, set at suitable distance in the window-frame, so that the sash,
on releasing the latch, may readily be raised or lowered, and, by catching over a pin, be retained securely in the required position. The upper and lower sashes are also looked securely in closed positions by the corresponding pins, preventing thereby the opening of either sash from the outside and their rattling by the wind. A stop-pin, E, of the sash back of the spring-latch defines the rear ward motion of the same, so that it clears the pins on being released, without being thrown back too far, and injuring thereby the spring action of the band or latch.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A sash-fastener composed of a spring band or latch, (3, attached to the sash, and provided with a perforation, O, at its middle part, and a lower handle part, in combination with the locking-pins 1) of the windowframe. to be opera-ted substantially as shown and described.
PETER MEYER. Witnesses:
HORACE KIMBALL, CHRIST. S'rEMLER.
