A CORPORATION OF RHODE ISLAND.
DISPLAY oenn.
Application filed March 31, 1926.. Serial No. 98,721.
This invention relates to an improved means of fastening or securing a figure device to a display card; and has for its ob ect to provide a display card having openings therein through which the arms of the spring clip extend to grip the body of the display device and secure and retain the same on the card without the use of cement.
lVith these and other objects in view, the
to invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as will be more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
1n the accompanying draw ngs:
Figure 1 is a perspective vlew llustrating the figure device as secured to a dlsplay card, the tabs of the card hiding the arms of the clip.
Figure 2 is a face view of the card showing in outline the tabs as cut with one portion remaining attached to be raised from the stock on the dotted lines thereof.
Figure 3 is a sectional elevation through the tabs showing them raised from the plane of the stock. I I
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the cllp as cut from a strip of sheet stock and before being folded.
Figure 5 shows the cllp folded wlth its 3() arms extending upwardly and inwardly.
Figure 6 is a sectional elevation showing the clip with its arms extendmg upwardly through the openings in the card and engaging the body of the figure and the tabs as covering the arms of the clip.
Figure 7 is a top view showlng a fragmental portion of the card with the figure in section and the arms of the clip recessed to lit and engage the body of the figure.
It is found in mounting a figure such as a cupie and the like, upon a display card, for instance as employed in the advertlsing of baby rings or other article, necessary to provide some means for securing the figure to the card so that it will not be accidentally broken away or disconnected from its seat.
or supported position. It is found in practice that cement will not accomplish thls purpose as it has not sufficient strength to accomplish the object in a practical way. Therefore, to provide suitable securmg or fastening means for retaining the figure on the card, I have provided a spring clip having arms extending through spaced openings in the card, the arms being arranged to grip the sides of the figure and retain it in the desired position on the card. In some instances where it is desired to conceal the arms of the spring clip, I have cut tabs and raised them from the card itself to lie over or against the spring arms to cover or hide them from View; and the following is a detailed description of the present embodiment of my invention and showing one means by which these advantageous results may be obtained:
With reference to the drawings, 10 designates the display card which is herein shown as being provided with a pair of spaced openings 11 from which openings are cut and raised the tabs 12 leaving an integral cross bar between them; also this display card may be provided with openings 13 to receive and display a finger ring 9 or other device to be exhibited, the same being herein shown as also provided with a tongue 14 raised from the stock and adapted to be passed through the ring to secure it in its openings. In order to render the display attractive particularly in the sale of baby rings and like articles, it is found of advantage to mount a small image or figure of a cupie or the like, upon the card to attract the the attention of the purchaser and in order to securely mount this image or figure upon the card, I have formed a spring clip 16.
which is preferably constructed from a strip of metal 17 out to length and having its end portions 18 turned up providing resilient arms, the extremities of which are prefer.- ably concaved as at 19 to engage and fit the sides of the rounding body of the figure 20. These arms 18 are arranged to extend up through the tab openings 11 and the metal strip 17 bet-ween the arms engages the under side of the cross bar 15 of the card stock, whereby the figure when gripped by the arms is held firmly seated against this cross bar, the resiliency of the arms permitting con siderable movement of the image in its seat- 100 ed position and preventing the same from being accidentally released therefrom. Also in some instances where it'is desired to cover or hide the resilient arms 18 of the clip the tabs 12 are permitted to lie against 105 these arms to hide the same.
My improved means of securing the figure to a card is very simple, practical and effective.
The foregoing description is directed solely towards the construction illustrated, but I desire-it to be understood that I reserve the privilege of resorting to all the mechanical changes to which the device is susceptible, the invention being defined and limited only 10 by the terms of the appended claim.
I claim In combination, a display car'd adapted to mount a figure device thereon having a pair of spaced tabs cut and raised from the stock leaving a cross bar between them, a spring clip havin arms straddling said bar and exadapted to grip the figure between them and secure it to the face of the card, said tabs being arranged to hide the. clip arms.
In testimony Q i ALBERT J. ROW'AN.
whereof I aflix'my signature.
