DEVICE. FOR REDUCING THE IITCHIN G OF SHIPS.
Application filed November 9, 1926, Serial No. 147,211, and in Germany July 29, 1926.
This invention relates to a device for reducing the pitching of ships and has for 1ts object to reduce pitching, especially 1n the case of ships travelling under ballast, 1n such a manner that the annoying movement of the propeller out of the water is eliminated during pitching and an idle runnlng of the propeller is obviated.
Endeavours have been made to overcome this drawback by various means but as the means employed were mostly too complicated or did not fulfill their purpose, they were abandoned.
For example rotary plates have been arranged outside the hull of the ship, these plates being adapted to be brought into their operative position by an extremely complicated device.
According to the present invention guide members are arranged on both sides of the rear stem of the vessel, these members extending close up to the propeller blades. In order to enable a balance of the suction action above and below the guide members to be obtained more easily, the guide members are provided with openings located near the hull of the ship. For the purpose of removing the load of surface pressure further openings of suitable shape are provided.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A device for reducing the pitching of ships, wherein stationary guide members are provided on both sides of the rear of the s ip and extend close up to the propeller blades and wherein the guide members consist each of a number of plates which are formed into a hollow body.
