Application flled December 12, 1924. Serial 1W0. 755,887.
' This invention relates to containers for holding face powder, cosmetics and other like preparations.
An object of the improved case or scrlbed having means to confine therein loose or powdered cosmetics or the like material so as to prevent accidental spilling of the cosmetic when the case is inverted, for breaking 131p the cosmetic should the latter become cake sired iluantity of the cosmetic or use. A A further object of the invention is to provide an im roved-case or box of the char- 16 acter descri ed which is constructed of few and simple parts easy and convenient to handle, neat in appearance and practical and efiicient to a high degree for the purposes described.
90 Other objects be obvious and out.
The invention accordingly consists in the featuresv of construction, combinations of 95 elements and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described and of which the scope of application will be indicated in the following claims.
' In the accompanying drawing, in which is shown one". of the various possible illustrative embodiments of this invention,
Fig. 1' is an elevational view in cross section of a vanity case embodying the inven-.
tion;
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on line 2-2 in Fig. 1 showing the inner compartment top cover; and
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary sectional view of tlhe inner top cover taken on line 33 in Referring in detail to the drawing, 10 denotes an outer casing or container of a device embodying the invention, said casing 10 being constructed in any well known manner of metal, paper-, molded compositions, or of other suitable material. The casing 10 may be of any suitable shape but is preferably circular in cross-section and comprises a body portion or compartment 11 having an upstanding wall 11 and a suitable cover 12 which may be either fitted to telescope over said body portion 11,- .or as shown in Fig. 1, hinged thereto as at 13.
To confine a loose or powdered cosmetic 15, such as face powder or the like, in the invention is to provide an of this invention will in part in part hereinafter pointed box of. the character de-f and for conveniently dis ensing a decompartment 11 and to prevent spilling of said cosmetic when the casing 10' is accidentally inverted, an inner. compartment cover or partition. member 14 may be provided. Said member .14 may be made of any \suitable sheet material, and formed with a threaded rim portion 14 for engaging with the threaded inner surfacell on theside wall 11', said threaded parts being preferably of fine pitch to provide a relatively .fine feed of the member 14 into the compartment 11. A powder pufi 16 ofiany well known construction may be provided to occupy the space between the member 14 and the cover 12 (see Fig. 1). 1 A plurality of spaced depressed lips 14 may preferably besymmetrically arranged on member 14 by stamping and bending or otherwise formed to provide through said member 14 restricted passages 14" and scoop portions 14. It is apparent-from the drawing that on screwing the member 14, into the compartment 11, the scoops 14 serve to break up the cosmetic 15 should the same become caked and also feed a desired quantity of the cosmetic to the upper side of the member 14 where it can be conveniently taken up for use on the powder puff in the well known manner. I
Suitable'means may be provided on said member 14, as for example raised projections 14 diametrically arranged in pairs on the upper surface of member 14 to permit convenient turning of said member into the compartment 11.
In using the container, the powder puff 16 is simply removed and the partition member 14 given a slight turn clockwise by applying the finger to the raised projection 14. The scoops 14 break up the adjacent layer of powder should the same be caked,
and feed a portion of the powder to the upper surface of member 14 where it may be taken up by the powder pufi 16 in the usual manner. The depressed lips 14 are constructed to normally obstruct the direct passage of the powder from the compartment, thereby eliminating accidental spilling should the casing be inverted.
It will thus be seen that there is provided a device in which the several objects of this invention are achieved, and I which is well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.
As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as various changes might be made in the embodiment above set forth, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth or shown in the accompanying drawing is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1.
