kThis invention relates to `certain newand useful improvements ina combined letter sheet and envelope and has for its primary object to provide anvarticle of thisicharao- 5 ter wherein the letter sheet is carr'edvby an envelope nthat is preferably of rectangular' formation and foldable upon its transverse median line with the meeting edges of the envelope gunnned together outwardly of the letter sheet.
A further obj ect ofthe invention is to provide a combined letter sheet and envelope of the above type wherein a weakened line or row of perforations is formed in the envelope adjacent its edge to facilitate opening thereof.
till another object of the invention is to provide a combined letter sheet and envelope wherein the-'letter sheet may be adhesively attached at one of its ends 'to the envelope or formed integral with one end edge of the envelope to be folded thereover and within the envelope when the latter is Vfolded and sealed. lll/lith the above and other objects in view that will become apparent as the nature of the invention isbetter understood, the same consists in the novel form7 combination and arrangement ofparts and in the details of construction hereinafter more fully dc- I) scribed, shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed. Y
y In the accompanying drawing wherein certain reference characters are employed to designate corresponding parts throughout I5 the several views,
Figure l is a perspective view ofthe coinbined letter sheet .and/envelope constructed in acco-rdance with the present invention, showing the letter sheet andl envelope-of separate elements adhesively secured together at one end thereof;
Figure 2 is a perspective view showing the article in its folded and sealed condition; v
Figure 3 is a vertical cross-sectional view taken on line 3 3 of Figure l;
Figure 4 is a. perspective view of another form of the combined letter sheetand envelope wherein the letter sheet is forn'ied integral with one end edge of the envelope;
5o and Figure 5 is a detail sectional view 'taken on line 5 5 of Figure 4:.
Referring more in detail to the accoin panying drawing, and particularly to FigaV ures l and 2 there is illustrated afcombined letter sheet and envelope wherein the en'- line as the invention,
velope is of substantially rectangular,fo'rma-k i tion in plan view and comprises sections l and 2 that are foldable upon thetransverse median line 3 to assume the position .shown in Figure Q with the outer side of the section l lined as 4: for names andv addresses'or the like. A weakened line 5 of perforations or the like is arranged parallel and adjacent to each edge ofthe envelope and when the Ge lenvelope is folded upon the line 8 and sealed by aid of the gunnned surfaces 6 located between the lines of perforations and the edges of the envelope, opening ofthe envelope is gr atly facilitated by tearing the same on the weakened line. l f
j In the form of theV invention shown in lFigures l andv 5, the letter sheet 7a is formed integral lwith the envelope at one end there? of las at l0 and being foldable tol overlie the envelope as illustrated, said letter sheet T has a line of per'forations 5al registering with Y j the adjacent line of perforations 5 at the 'corresponding end of the envelope. The
combined ,lettery sheet and envelope shown; in Figuresd and 5 can be struck from a Ysingle sheet of material and may be readily detached from the envelope when 'the latteris opened by tearing upon the weakened the letter sheet 7a is not adhesively or otherwise carried by the envelope, other than the weakened .line of perforations 5a. The envelope shown in Figures 4 and 5 is sealed in the manner similar to the form shown in Figure l and the letter sheet is.A safely carried therein. In either form of 105 detection of unauthorized attemptsl to open the letter is'easily discernible and a highly useful and practical article of the character described'herein has been provided. y
vWhilethere are herein shownl and described the preferred embodiments of thek present invention it is nevertheles to he understoodL that minor changes may he inade therein without departing from the spirit and scope o-'l the invention as claimed.
llfhat l claim as new is l'n a combined letter' sheet and envelope, an envelope oil rectangular orination e1nbodying two sections, one told )le upon the other end adheeively secured together adjacent their ni- A*l edges, e weakened line of tearing i'ieinoiations adjacent and inwardly ol the gunnned edges, a rectangular letter sheet ein-tended 'troni one end of the envelope and sepaintelyv Foldable therein, said letter sheet beingy o1 a diameter less end line o'l tearing perforations in the envelope whereby when the letter sheet is oleed within the sealed envelope access to the letter sheet and severance from the en- Velope is had upon severance of the guinnied edges of the envelope on the lines of tearing perforations.
ln testimony whereof I allie; my signature.`
JAMES o. JOHNSON.
