GEORGE F. S. ZIMMERMAN AND CHARLES ZIMMERMAN, OF FREDERICK, MD.
IMPROVEMENT IN SHUTTER BOWERS AND FASTENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 163,621, dated May 25, 1875; application filed February 20, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, Gno. F. S. ZIMMER- MAN and CHARLES ZIMMERMAN, of Frederick, Frederick county, and State of Maryland, have invented a Shutter-Fastener, of which the following is a specification:
The object of our invention is to more readily open, close, and bow window-shutters.
The invention consists of a shutter-fastening of a peculiar construction, as hereinafter described, and set forth in the claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, Figure 1, Plate A is permanent on the shuttor B, with a hole in it at O to fit the end of brace D, which end, at E, is bent down at right angles about three-quarters of an inch. Brace D is permanently attached to the shutter by means of a hinge-joint at E, whichjoint prevents the opposite end of the brace from falling when not supported by the sill or hand. Plate or socket F has a hole in it to fit the end of brace D, and is permanent on sub-sill G. The shutter B is represented as open, with the end of brace D in the hole in plate or socket F, which holds the shutter firm- 1y open against the wall. By removing the brace from plate or socket F, and drawing the shutter in by means of the brace, which serves for a handle to the shutter, it can be bowed at any angle by placing the end of the brace in the different holes in plate H, which is permanent on the sub-sill; and by removing the brace from said plate H, and drawing the shutter closed, as in Fig. 2, the hole in plate A comes immediately over a corresponding hole in plate H, and by dropping the end of the brace down through both holes, a complete lock or fastening is formed.
We do not claim anything as new except the look at A, Fig. 2, in combination with the attachment of the brace to the shutter at E, as above described.
We claim as our invention- The fastening formed by the end of the brace D passing down through the hole 0 in plate A into a corresponding hole in plate H, in combination with the permanent attachment of the brace to the shutter at E and the socket F, as above described.
