N0.l63,253 Patented Mayl1,1875.
THE GRAPHIC CILPHOTO 'LITILBB K4! PARK PLAGLNAC UNITED STATES PATENT ALBERT J. REDWAY, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN STOVE-LEG FASTENINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 163.253, dated May 11, 1875; application filed March 22, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT J. REDWAY, of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, State of Ohio have invented an Improvement in Stove-Leg Fastenings, of which the following is a specification:
My invention has for its object the production of a fastening device which can be seen and operated from the outside of the stove, and which will enable any person to understand its character and method of operation at first sight, and which, furthermore, will not require material alterations in the stove patterns to introduce it in connection with any of the well-known patterns of stoves; and consists of a bolt or catch secured to the leg, and adapted to engage behind the outer rim of the stovebottom.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a stove-bottom with my improved leg about to engage with it. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of a portion of the stove-bottom with my leg in place, the section being taken through ,the axis of the fastening device. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the fastener. Fig. 4 is a plan of the under side of the stove-bottom, exhibiting the dovetails and the rim behind which the fastener engages.
A is the bottom of the stove. In the introduction of my device to a stove, the plate A may be of the ordinary pattern; but I prefer that its outer rim a shall have a short straight portion, a, for the bolt to engage with. B represents the ordinary dovetails of the stovebottom. 0 is the stove-leg, of the ordinary pattern, except that it is formed near the top to receive the bolt D, as shown.
The bolt or catch D may be, of course, a sliding, rotary, or spring bolt; but I prefer to give it a rotary movement, the engaging projection d being at the upper side, and the projection d, for the fingers, opposite to it. The bolt or catch is pivoted 011 a central rivet, E, and it is simply necessary, in order to engage or disengage it from the stove-bottom, to partially rotate the catch or bolt, so that the projection (I may be brought into position for engagement with or disengagement from the rim Ct.
I claim- The stove-bottom A, having the down ward ly-projecting rim a and dovetailed ribs B. and
the leg 0, in combination with the fastener D, arranged on the outside of the leg, and adapted to look behind rim or, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony of which invention I hereunto set my hand. 7
ALBERT J. REDWAY. Witnesses:
