Description

E. EVANS.
- Stove Leg. 05102330: Patented May 10,1876.
' To all whom it may concern 5 form a part of thisspecification, a
:The .nature of my' invention consists in the con-. strnction and arrangeme'ntiof a fastening for stoveilli Y L Li-A EfV'AN s, or s P ART A, 0-H I 0.
I Letters'P a tent No. 102,930, dated MaylO, 1870;
Y IMPROVEMENT m STOVE-LEGS.
, The Schedule referred to in these Iiettera Patent and making part of the same.
Be it-known' that I,-E13IJ A H'EVANS, of Sparta, in the county of Morrow and, State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements-inStove- Leg Fastenings; and I do herebydeclarethat the'fol lowingjis a full, 0lQtl',itlld exact description thereof,
reference being had :to. the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which -legs,:as will be hereinafter more fully set. forth.
"In order-tox enable-others skilled in theart to which my invention ,appertains to makeand'use the same, I will now proceed to describe' its construction and operation, referring to theannexed drawings,
in wluch-'- i y Figure 1 is alon gitudinal vertical section of a stovei leg, showing the manner of fastening the 'saine'to the bottom of the stove, and
' a Figure 2 is afront View of the same.
1 Arepresents a p rtion of thehottom ofastove to which one of the-legsis to be fastened.
" On "he under side of the bottom A, near the outer edge, are placed twolugs a a, a suitable distance apart, so that the knee of the stove-leg will fit between them; \A suitable distance in rear of the lugsa a, on.tl1e under side of the bottom'A, is a bar or flange, b.
The dovetaillformed by the flanges 12 and f may,
instead of running across the stove-leg, as above set forth, run lengthwise, when the projection d, on the bottom of ,the .stove, will be suitably changed, so as tolock oi-fasten the stove-leg by means of a ball, block, or roller, as described.
To release and remove the stove-leg, it is only necessary to raise the block it up, when it can be readily 3 taken out and the stove-leg removed, the rear side of which is inclined downward and toward the rear, as
seen in fig. 1. And a short distance in "rear of the flange b is a projection, d, which extends, onthe front side, perpendicularly downward.
v The stove-leg B is bent, so as to-form the knee e,.
' which fits in betweenthe lugs a a. Its upper portion is then 'bent slightly downward, and extends toward the rear, having on its upper side a projecting flange, f, which is inclined on its frontside so as to correspond, and form a dovetail with the inclined flange b i on the bottom-A.
The rear end of thestove-leg is spread downward,
and slightly curved toward the lower edge, and has a small projecting flange, i, on the sides 'andlower edge.
\Vhen, now, the leg Bis placed so thatthekneefits in between thelugs a a, and thc flanges b and f ongage, as shown, a block, or roller, or ball, 71, is inserted between the rear end of the stove-leg and the projection 11, which block or roller falls down against the curved portion between the flanges t t, and locks the leg firmly in place.
V I Having thus fully'described my invention.
What I claim as new, and desire to securehy Let:
ters Patent, is-- 1.- The lugs to a, flanged), and projection (1, construeted as described, and arranged on the underside of the bottom of a stove, substantially as and for the I purposes herein set forth. x I r 2. The stovedeg B,'constructed as described, and
provided with flange if; and ,its rear end curved and I provided with flange 12, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
1 3. The combination of the bottom A, having lugs a a, flange'b, and projection 11, with the stove-leg B, constructed as described, and'the block it or its equivalent, all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth. 7
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, Iaiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses. e
ELTJ AH EVANS.
