CLIP FOB HAIR-WAVING- SAGHETS.

When performing the permanent waving .of hair, it is necessary after having coiled the tress of hair on a suitable curler to enclose it in a sachet ordinarily made of paper, cellophane, cloth or similar thin material. Said sachet is generally closed at one end and open at its other end adjacent the hair so as to permit the insertion of the tress but provided at said open end with removable stopping means so designed as to provide a hermetic closure such as will prevent any hot gases or vapours evolved inside the sachet to flow and injure the scalp. Various stopping means including clips and clamps have been proposedheretofore for providing such a hermetic closure of .the sachet but they are all more or less deficient.

The present invention has for its primary object to' provide a clip of improved an eflicient structure adapted for permitting to easily and adjustably constringe and close in a strictly hermetic way the open end of hair waving sachets ofthe type set forth. A. further object of the invention is to rovi'de a clip of the aforesaid type easily (amiable by hand for permitting the hair dresser at any moment in the course of the waving operation to further constringe the end of the sachet fol-taking up any leakagev due to its contraction under the effect of heat and for thus preventing any appreciabie amount of hot gases or vapours to escape out flofrthe sachet.

These two-jaws are advantageously made of thin sheet metal and they are arranged in overlappin adjacent ends and hinge ly connected to each other by a pivot 3 constituted by a pin preferably rivetedto a pair of washers or else by a grub screw. This rocker is constituted by aflat elongated heel 9 the outer face of which acts as a finger rest for both bringing the pawl 8 into engagement with the teeth 5 and for swinging the jaw 2 about the pivot pin 3 whilst the inner face of said heel 9 has formed integral therewith or fixed thereto two substantially parallel wings 10 and 11 having tongue-like extensions 10 and 11*" the spacing of which is slightly greater than the thickness of the two juxtaposed jaws 1 and 2 whereby the latter may snugly slide between the tongues 10 and ll -which thus act as guides for retaining the pawl 8 in engagement with the, teeth 5, as long as the rocker is not swung back about its pivot 7, by precludingany by means of which it ,can be actuated. For the sake of constructional simplicity, the wings 10 and 11 depending from the rocker heel 9 may be alike as illustrated. However it will be understood by anyone skilled inf'the art that only that one wing which isv adjacent to the ratchet teeth or serrations 5 might be cut as a pawl 8 and a guiding tongue .10; this modification is selfexplanatory and need not be further described. As will also be readily understood, the angularly cut portion 8 of the wing 10 might instead of being formed as a pawl be arranged to frictionally engage the arcuate edge 5 which could be smooth i. e., deprived of any teeth 'or serrations whereby the two 'aws 1 and 2 could nevertheless be firmly eld together so as to invariably delineate the recess B. These modifications are obvious and. donot require any illustration.

A clip for hermetically constringing and closing the open end of hair waving sachets comprising in combination a pair of flat arcuate jaws pivotally connected and so shaped as to innerly delineate a recess of varying area, the one jaw having one part folded upon itself into a finger piece and ratchet teeth on its outer curvature and the other jaw being fitted at its end opposite the pivot with a channelled rocker the outer part of which is formed as a finger rest whilst one of its wing portions is cut as a pawl for securely engaging the teeth on the companion jaw when inwardly swung and both wing portions have tongue-like extensions'for guiding the mutual displacement of the jaws.
