WILLIAM FRIEDMAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
TOILET ACCESSORY.
Application filed July 26, 1926. Serial No. 124,984.
This invention relates to toilet accessories, and more particularly to toilet accessories pertaining to cosmetic or make-up articles, although the invention is not limited to use alone in that connection.
The objects of the invention are to provide an improved toilet accessory having increased utility and desirability; to provide means for pointing a make-up stick; to enable a fresh surface of a make-up stick to be obtained for each application of the stick; to secure a sanitary toilet accessory; to save the shavings from the stick; to enable the shavings to be utilized; to adapt the invention to various types of containers or holders; to accommodate sticks varying in length; to secure simplicity of construction and operation, and to secure other advantages and results as may be brought out in the following description.
Referrin to the accompanying drawing in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts throughout the several views;
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a toilet accessory embodying my invention;
Fi ure 2 is a sectional view on line 2-2 of Flg. 1, showing the stick retracted or in normal position;
Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 2, and showing the stick advanced against the cutter' Figure 4 is another sectional view similar to Figure 2 and here showing the cap to the shaving compartment swung open; and
Figure 5 is a sectional view on line 5'5 of Figure 2.
In the specific embodiment of the invention illustrated in said drawing, the reference numeral 1 indicates a container, which may be of suitable construction such as the usual tubular container now used for lipsticks and other cosmetics. Said container is provided with a suitable holder 2 therein with suitable provision for moving said holder within the container. for ejectin or retractingthe lip-stick or other cosmetic 3 carried by the holder. Various means are now on the market for securing this relative movement, and as one simple example thereof, I have shown the holder provided with a pair of outstanding lugs 4, preferably aligned on a diameter of the holder, and projecting into slots 5 which extend longitudinally of the holder. Finger pressure on the exposed ends of the lugs with a slidbrow pencils,
ing motion along the container will cause the holder to be'correspondingly slid as will be understood by those versed in the art.
The containeralso has a cap 6 which telescopically fits over the end of the container from which the cosmetic protrudes, said cap also being tubular and preferal'ily rotatable with respect to the container, as well as be ing removable therefrom when it is desired to use the cosmetic.
Within the cap 6 is provided pointing means by which the cosmetic stick may be pointed or shaved to produce a fresh surface. The invention contemplates various means for accomplishing this pointing or shavin and is not confined to the specific embodiment shown. The example illustrated includes a diagonal partition 7 Within the cap and fixed with respect thereto. Said partition has a slit 8 therein, said slit being here shown as diamctrical and having one edge bent downward and sharpened so as to provide a knife edge 9. Above the partition the cap provides a compartment 10 suitable for receiving the shavings, and the outer end of the cap is preferably closed by a hinged or other lid 1 In use, the cap and container being assembled as shown, the stick of cosmetic is slid up by means of lugs 4 until it engages the partition in the cap. Then with only slight sliding pressure on the cosmetic, a relative rotary motion is imparted between the container and the cap. This causes the end of the cosmetic to be shaved off by the knife edge 9, the shavings going into the compartment 10 on the other side of the partition 7 from the cosmetic stick. By the manipulation of parts as just described, the cosmetic stick will not only present a fresh, sanitary surface, which is important in making application of the cosmetic to the lips, but will also be pointed so as to enable the user to more readily use the cosmetic to best advatnage. The shavings in the outer compartment are accessible by raising the lid 11, and are in such subdivided condition as to be readily picked up by contact with the users finger and utilized as rouge or for other purposes as may be found desirable. While the invention has, for purposes of being definite, been described in connection with lip-stick, it is to-be pointed out that this is not to be construed as confining the invention thereto, as other uses such as perfume pencils, eyeand many other toilet devices use of my may be utilized in connection with the invention to great advantage.
Obviously detail changes and modifications may be made in the construction and improved toilet accessory, and I do not wish to be understood as confining myself to the exact structure shown or uses mentioned except as set forth in the following claims when construed in the light of the prior art.
Having thus described the invention, I claim 1. A toilet accessory comprising means for holding a make-up stick and permitting the same to be moved longitudinally, and means associated with said holding means for shaving the end of said stick when moved longitudinally in one direction.
2. A toilet accessory comprising a container, a holder for a make-up stick slidablg carried in said container enabling the stic to be moved longitudinally, and means as sociated with said holder having a relative rotary freedom with respect to said stick opposite the end thereof and adapted to shave said stick when slid into engagement with said means and rotated.
3. A toilet accessory comprising a container, a holder for a make-up stick movable in the container so as to enable said stick to be projected and retracted with respect to the container, 2. cap for said container having a relative rotary freedom with respect thereto, and a diagonal cutting means in said cap for shaving said stick when projected thereagainst and one part rotated.
4. A toilet accessory comprising a container, a cap for said container having a cutter therein, said container providing a compartment for reception of shavings from said cutter, and a closure for said compartment providing means for obtaining access thereto for removing the contents thereof.
