BATEB'S CIGARETTE AND MATCH CASE.
appiicatim aied august sa, 192e. semi No. 181,703.
This invention relates to cigarette and match cases ,primarily constructed for use by bathers, and has for its main object to provide a case of this characterlthat may be readily attached to the swimming suit' belt and to enable cigarettes and match to be disposed therein and Vto be fully protected from the water while the bather is within the water. i o.
A further object of the invention is to provide a bathers cigarette and match case that is so constructed that when the case is open, the holder or the cigarettes will automatically move outwardly of the case so as to permit thesame to be readily7 removed therefrom.
Other objects and advantages ofthe invention will become apparent as the nature. of the invention'is better. understood when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.- i'
In .thedrawing wliereinflike numerals indicate like parts:
Figure l isa rear side elevation offabatli'- l ers cigarette and match case constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is an edge view disclosing the case in o en position, a portion of the cigarette hol er per se being broken away as to more clearly disclose 'the means whereby .coins ma be rigidly attached to said cigarette hol er. l i
Figure 3 is 'a detail vertical section of the (fase, an t Figure 4 is a top plan view thereof.
Now having particular reference to the drawing whereinthere is disclosed the most preferred embodiment of the invention with which We are at this time familiar,`A 5 and 6 designates respectivel a pair of case sections of sheet metal, bre or other suitable material, that are hingedly interconnected at their bottom sides as at 7. The hinge con nection is of the splring type so that said sections automatica #move to open position as disclosed in Figu're 2 when the saine are released. The skirt portion ofthe section 6 is of greater diameter than the skirt portion of the section 5 in order that said '50 Skirt portions will overlap as clearly closed in Figures 3 land 4. Within the skirt portion of the section 6 is a rubber ring 8- of the same contour as said slnrt'portion, said' rubber' ring being maintained infirm engagement' therewith by' a metallic ring 9 `bathers suit, thus that may be and preferably is, soldered or welded to the main wall of said section 6. Obviousl when the sections are closed, the edge of t e skirt of the section 5 will engage said rubber ring8 so as to provide a water proof joint between the sections.
Upon the. topside of the kirt portion of' t e section 6 is a. spring latch lever 10 hooked at its outer end and aft" its under side for engagement. over a lug 11 upon the other case section .5 so as to provide a means for retaining thesections in closed relation against the action of the spring hinge connection 7.
The sections of the case are preferably curved slightly as disclosedin Figure 4 :so as to conform to vthe curvature of the bathers body. The main wall ofthe section 6 is provided with a pair of loo s 12-12 for receiving the strap of the permitting the case to be conveniently carrie I Pivotally secured upon its opposite ends within the case section 5 .at the lower side thereof is a holder 13 of sheet metal or other suitable material, the upper end of which is open for receiving cigarettes 14, the height of Athis holder being such as to permit the cigarettes to readil move into the case section 5 when it is desired lto close said Section. Upon the inner face of the maiiiwall of the sect-ion 5 is one or more' leaf Springs 15 that contact the inner side ofsaid holder 13 in order that when the case sections are opened, said holder will be forced outwardly of the case section as disclosed in Figure 2. By reason ofsueh a provision, the cigarettesv may be removedrm the case when the same is opened. i t the interior of the case section 6 95 is a bracket or flexible stri of metal, the same being spot welded-or o y erwise secured to the section 6. This bracket or strip 16 provides a means to permit the attachment of a pack of matches 17, preferably of the pa r type in the case section 6.
he outer wall of the cigarette holder .13 is formed at its u p'er edge with a plurality' of spaced vertic y extending depressions 18 for receiviinY coins as .disclosed by 'the dotted lines in figure 1 and the full lines in Figure 2. At the lower ends of these depressions the material forming the cigarette older 13 is so struck outwardly as to provide spring clips 19 in back of which the 110 coins will engage so as to .be firmly retained in proper position upon the holder- It will thus be seen that we have provided a, highly novel, simple, and efficient form of cigarette and match case for hathers, that is well adapted for all the purposes heretofore designated, and even though we have herein shown and described the invention as consisting of certain detail structural elements it is nevertheless to be understood. that some changes may be made therein without affecting the spirit and scope of the appendcd claim.
Having thus described the invention, what we claim is: Y
In a cigarette and match cese lforlrbathers, u pair. of hin edly interconnected case sec- ,Jons, means w iereby the sections may be secured in closed relation, means whereby the case maybe supported upon the suit of the bather, means within one ease section for facilitating the attachment of a package of matches therein, a, holder for cigarettes pivotally disposed within theother case section, means within the case section for swinging said holder outwardly of the sections when the case is open, the front face of said cigarette holder being provided with coin receiving depressions, and means at the lower ends of the depressions for rigidly GEORGE H.
