UNETE star ANGEL IZQUIERDO, OF NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA.
DRAIN STRAINER.
Application filed January 25, 1924. Serial No. 688,582.
The present invention relates to a drain pipe and more particularly to a strainer mounted thereon having means associated therewith for the cleaning of the same.
The invention is capable of a plurality of different usages, as for example use in conjunction with sinks, wash basins, gasoline tanks, roof drains, oil cups for engines, milk drainers, street drains, cistern drains, etc.
An important object of the invention 13 to provide a device of this nature which may be readily and easily operated and which is conveniently located.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a device of this nature having an eflicient structure which is reliable, durable,
and well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
lVith the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description progresses, the invention resides 1n certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as may be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a vertical section through a drain pipe showing my invention associated therewith.
Figure 2 is a horizontal section taken on the line 22 of Figure 1 looking downwardly, and
Figure 3 is a vertical detail section taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrow.
Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that 1 designates a drain pipe which may be of any preferred Structure and is provided with the usual strainer 2. The drain pipe 1 is provided with a pair of diametrically opposed openings 3 immediately above the strainer 2 for the reception of pipe sections 4 and 5 which are disposed in alinement with each other. The section 4t is pro vided with a closed end 6 while the section 5 is provided with a threaded open end 7.
A circular brush 8 is mounted on one end of a rod 9 and is normally disposed within the pipe section 4. The other end of this rod 9 has mounted thereon a screw cap 10 adapted to engage the threaded opening 7' of the section 5 for holding the brush 8 within the pipe section 1 hen the strainer 2 becomes clogged with dirt this screw cap 10 is disengaged from the threaded opening 7 so that thebrush 8 may be moved into engagement with the strainer 2 and manipulated to cleanse the same of any dirt 'or similar matter which may have collected thereon. This matter may be brushed into section 5 and then out of its opening.
From the above description it will be seen that I have provided a device which may be incorporated in various drain pipes used in various arts and that the same will be efiicient for cleaning the strainer and will always beconveniently located. The device is of a simple construction and may be. placed on the market at a comparatively low.
cost.
Although I have described this inventi-on with a certain degree of particularity, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the details of construction and in the com bination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the scope or spirit of the invention as herein after claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is: I
In combination, a drain pipe, a strainer in said drain pipe, said drain pipe provided with diametrically opposed openings immediately above the strainer, pipe sections communicating with said openings, one of said sections having a closed end and the other provided with a threaded open end, and a brush element including a brush proper, a rod extending therefrom and a threaded cap on the rod, said brush adapted to be normally disposed within the pipe section having the closed end while the threaded cap normally engages the threaded open ing of the other section.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
ANGEL IZQUIERDO.
