Description

W. G. KENDALL VANITY CASE'EJECTOR Feb. 15, 1927. 1,618,092-
Filed July 5, 1926 WITNESSES INVENTOR -9 g- I ammwz M BY v I Z? A'ITORNEYS Patented Feb. 15, 1927.
UNlTED STATES WILLIAM G. KENDALL, 0F NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
VANITY-CASE EJECTOR.
Application filed July 3, 1926. Serial No. 120, 333.'
This invention relates to vanity cases and particularly to an improved ejector and has for an objectto provide an improved construction whereby a compact plate may be readily loosened or ejected.
Another object of the invention is to provide an ejector'for vanity cases wherein a swingable. member is presented and positioned with one end capable of ready manual actuation.
A further object of the invention is to provide in a vanity case an ejector wherein part of the hinge forms an ejecting structure for releasing the compact plate carried by the case.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is atop plan view of a vanity case provided with an ejector embodying the invention, the vanity case being shown open.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view through a case similar to that shown in Figure 1, the case being shown partly open and on an enlarged scale. I
Figure 3-is a fragmentary sectional view showing the ejector.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of a compact plate, locking ring and an ejecting member associated therewith.
'Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals. 1 indicates the body of a vanity case of a well known type provided with an annular rounded portion or bead 2 which presents an interior groove designed to accommodate the holding ring 3 which normally holds the compact plate 4 in the position shown in Figures 1 and 2. The ring 3 is resilient and also the bead 2 is resilient so that the plate 4 may be readily snapped in. place at any time. I
Heretofore, difliculty has been experienced in'removing plate 4 but according to the present invention means'have been provlded which will quickly and easily disconnect the plate fI'OIIltllG ring 3 so that it will drop out when the case is invertech As indicated .in' Figure 2 a double ejecting structure is provided and both or either may be operated to release plate 4. At the right shown in Figures 2 and 3, is provided an ejector 5 having a rounded portion which is partly surrounding an indented section of ring '3, said rounded portion 6 merglng into an ejecting lip or cam 8 and also 1nto a manually actuated arm or finger 9. When theplate 4 with its cosmetic is being placed in a case, the parts are positioned substantially as shown in Figure 3. By pressing the plate 4 toward the body 1, the plate will move downwardly until it assumes the position shown in Figure 2 and the ejector 5 will swing over to substantially the position shown in Figures 2 and 4.
When it is desired to remove or loosen the plate 4, the arm or finger 9 is grasped and swung upwardly to substantially theposition shown in Figure 3. This will pull the upper edge of plate 4 from beneath ring 3 and, consequently, will release the plate so that it may be readily removed or may be dropped out of the case if the case is inverted. When the structure 5 and associated parts are not used or when, for some reason, it is not desired to use the same, the e ector on the diametrically opposite side of the case" may be used. This ejector, as illusis part of the ring 3, From this it will be noted that the ring 3 acts in the double capacity of means for holding plate 4 in position and also as means for holding the cover 12 pivotally in position. Theejector 10 is sprung out only a short distance from its normal position and will not function until the cover 12 has been moved to almost the position shown in Figure 1. As the ejector 10 engages the plate 4 it raises the same sufliciently to release the plate from ring 3.
What I claim is:
1. Ina vanity case provided with a body I vhaving an annular groove at the upper edge,
a resilient ring arrangedjn said groove pro vided at one point with an indented section, and an ejector pivotally mounted on said ring and capable of manual actuation for disconnecting a compact plate held in posi-.
tion by said ring.
2. In a vanity case provided'with a body having a holding member for holding a compact plate in position, an ejector pivotally mounted on said holding member and positioned to be manually actuated for moving said plate in such a direction as to be released from said holding member.
3. The combination with a vanity case hav- 7 ing a body adapted to receivea compact, and a lid hingedly connected to said body, of an ejector for said compact, said ejector-including a substantially U-shaped pivotally' mounted body having'one leg acting asa cam and the other leg acting as a manually actuated handle, the leg acting as a cam normally extending beneath the compact positioned in said case.
' 4. In a vanity case provided witha resilient ring adapted to hold a compact plate in, position, an ejector formed with an encircling portion adapted to partially encircle a section of said ring, a cam extending from said encircling portion for engaging the plate, :and an arm extending from said encircling portion, said arm being adapted to be manually actuated whereby said ejecti g portion will function tomove the plate 0 it of en agement with said ring;
5. vanity case comprising a body hav ing a resilient ring positioned to hold' a compact provided'with a supporting plate in the body and also positioned to permit a section thereof to act as a pintle, said ring being unconnected to said plate and normally pressed against part of the upper surface"thereof, a cover for said body formed with an extension bent into a barrel or knuckle encircling. said pintle section, said extension being formed with an outwardly extending portion and said body being formed with an opening opposite said outwardly extending portion whereby -said outwardly extending portion is adapted to ''move through said opening when the cover is opened for engaging and raising said plate.
6. A vanity case comprising a body havin an opening at one point, a lid, a resillent ring arranged in the body positioned to clamp. a compact plate in the body, said ring being unconnected with said plate but normally pressing against the same, and a h nge structure for said 11d comprising a secpass through the opening: in the body, en-- gage said plate and raise the same out'ot operative engagement with said ring.
7. A vanity case comprising-a body having an opening at one point, means for releasably holding a compact in said case, and
a lid hingedly connected to said body by a hinge structure including a tubular; knuckle extending from said lid, said hinge overlappingsaid aperture, the knuckle of said 1 lid having a projecting portion acting as an positioned to swing through 'said opening when said lid is moved to a fully open poengagement with said holding means,
'8. The con'ibination. with a vanity case having a body adapted to receive a compact,
and a lid hingejdly connected to said body,
sition, engage and raise the compact out of of an ejector for ejecting said compact, said ejectorbeing pivot-ally mounted and formed at one end with a cam for acting as an ejecting member and at the other end with a manually actuated handle, said handle being normally positioned to extend inwardly beneathsaid lid when the lidv is closed,
