COMPACT EJ'ECTOR FOR VANITY CASES.
Application fl'led January 11', 1927. Serial 110. 160,440.
This invention relates to compact ejectors for vanity cases and has for an object to provide an improved construction wherein means are provided for normally holding a compact and its supporting. plate in a vanity case while permitting a ready swinging movement of the comp-act from the vanity case.
Another object of the invention is to provide an ejector for vanity cases wherein a swinging plate or bar extends normally across the bottom of the vanity case and acts to swing the compact and compact carrying plate out of the case when moved from its normal position.
A further object, more specifically, is to provide a swinging ejector bar pivotally connected with a vanity case and extending across the same and formed with means for normally holding the compact plate in the vanity case while also presenting a structure readilyswingable out of or partly out of the case. r
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a top plan view of part of a vanity case with the lid shown open and with an embodiment of the invention applied thereto.
Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure 1 but showing the compact and compact plate removed.
Figure 3 is a sectional view through Figure 1 on line 33.
Figure 4: is a view similar to Flgure'l but showing a slightly modified form of ejector and also a diiferent form of caslng.
Figure 5 is a sectional view through Figure 4 on line 5-5.
Referring to the accompanymg draw ng by numerals, 1 indicates a vanity case which is provided with a hinge 2 having a suitable pintle 3 whereby the lid 4 is hingedly connected to the body 1. The body 1 is provided with a catch 5 adapted to receive part a of the lid 4 for locking the same closed, said catch being carried by a vertical bar. 6 supported by the spring 7 and provided with athumb member or button 8 extending through body 1. Wheneverthe button 8 is pressed inwardly, catch 5 will move 1nwardly and thereby release the lid 4. Bar 6 extends below the spring 7 preferably and is provided with a small raised portion 9 whereby a shoulder is provided for receiving the projection 10 on the ejector bar 11. The ejector bar 11 is provided with a vertical or upstanding member '12 bent slightly inwardly at 13 and at 14 bent to form an overhanging shoulder whereby-it may. be readily grasped and swung to the left in Figure 3 and in this Way crowd the bar 11, to the left in Figure 3, said crowding being only for a short distance and sufficient to cause the extension 10 to move from beneath the projection 9. At the opposite end of the ejector bar or ejector member 11 to the extension 12-is arranged a vertical por tion 15, which at the lower end in Figure '3, is spaced a slight distance from the case or body 1 so as to permit the bar 11 to be crowded to the left as just described. The
upper part of the vertical portion 15 is turned over for forming a knuckle 16 and said knuckle surrounding the pintle 3 and in appearance forming part of the hinge. The portion 15 is also provided with a pair of pressed out lugs or spurs 17 which project over a shoulder 18 ofthe compact plate 19. The plate 19 carries a cosmetic pad 20 of face powder, rouge or other cosmetic.
The spurs 17 act as retaining means for holding the compact plate or holder 19 in place and co-acting with these spurs are holding members 21 and 22. These holding members are formed identical and are preferably integral with resilient extensions 23 and 24 of the extension or 'portion 12 which is also formed integral with the bar 11. The holding members 21 are spaced cars which straddle the head or projection 25 of plate 19 so that the plate 19 and the compact 20 carried thereby are supported on the bar 11 by member 17 and members 21 and 22. When the bent end 1 1 is grasped and pulled to t-heleft in Figure 3, the parts are crowded over toward the hinge 16 sufficiently to'allow the extension 10 to move past the rojection 9. This will permit the parts to he swung to an open position as shown in dotted lines in Figure 3. After a new compact and compat plate have been inserted in the injector, the parts are merely forced down until the extension 10 snaps beneath the extension 9.
In Figures 4 and 5, a modified form of the invention is shown wherein the device is adapted to a different form of vanity case 26. In this form of vanity case, the body 27 is provided with a turne over flange 28 a the periphery, said flange accommodating a wire 29 which forms a pintle for the bin e 30 and which also is referably bent slight y at 31 for acco'mmo ating the turned over end orknuckle 32 of the ejector plate 33.
At the end opposite to the knuckle 32, plate 33 is bent at 34 and then again at 35 for presenting a finger hold. The plate 33 is resilient and the bent portion 3 1 is adapted to be snapped beneath the knuckles of the hinge 30 when the plate is in its operative position. The compact plate 36 with its com act may be placed in position as shown in igure 5 with part of the compact projecting beneath the'flang'e 28 and part beneath the turned over ends 34 and 35. This will efiectively hold the compact plate and its compact in the case 26 until the plate 33 has been swung to an outer posltion as shown in dotted lines in Figure 5 whereby having a hinge provided with a pintle and a body provlded with a catch, of a plate having a knuckle surroundin said pintle, said plate extending across t e bottom of said body, and means formingpart of the plate interlocking with the catch structure of the vanity case for normally holding the plate against the bottom of the body.
2. The combination with a vanity case having a hinge rovided with a pintle and a body rovideti with a catch on the diametric y opposite side to the hinge, said catch having a projection near the bottom.
of the body, of a compact holder and ejector comprising a bar extending across the bottom ofsaid body and at one end formed with a knuckle surrounding said pintle and at the opposite end with an extension norprojecting below said projection and mall hand operated meansconnected to said bar for shifting the same longitudinally sufficielntly to cause said extension to be disof the body of the vanity case 3. The combination with a vanity case having a catch formed with a projection near the bottom, of a hingedly mounted ejector provided with an extension fitting normally beneath said projection and wit a hand operated member connected with the ejector near said extension whereby the ejector maybe moved slightly so as to be disengaged and then'swung to a position out of the vanity case.
4. An ejector for vanity cases comprising an ejecting bar, a knuckle formed at one end of the bar, a pair of laterally extending arms formed at the opposite end of the bar, an extension formed also at said opposite end of the. bar, each of said arms eing provided with a substantially U- shaped structure adapted to straddle part of the compact holder for normally holding the holder in-the vanity case, and a hand operated member adapted to be grasped and nlled for swinging the bar andthe compact iield by said U-shaped structure whereby the compact will be moved out of the vanity case.
5. A compact holder and ejector for vanity cases comprising a bar provided with a hinge knuckle at one end, a pair of holding spurs at the end carrying the knuckle, a
engaged whereby the bar may be swung out.
pair' of resilient arms at the opposite end,
each of said arms having a straddling holding member for straddling part ,of the compact holder, a hand operated member for moving said bar out of a vanity case, and a projector co-acting with certain parts of the vanity case for normally holding the bar in the body of the vanity case.
6. In a vanity case a compact holder and ejector comprising a flat bar having a coiled hollow ortion at one end, said coiled end being a so provided with a pair of holding spurs, a pair of integral laterally extending' springs at the opposite end to said bar, each of said springs having a pair of U- shaped ears, and an extension at the center of said arms acting to hold the bar in position when in use.
