This invention lrelates to certain improve'-y ments inv containers or cases for loose powder; Y l n Loose powder for toilet purposes isvnow largely sold in bulk, that is, is put up in relatively large quantities, as, for instance,
a pound or more.` This bulk powder1r is used Vparticularly vfor dusting after bathing, Valthough, lof course', it maybe used for facial or other purposes.- As this "powder is now put out, it is packaged in a container with which is supplied a large puff fortapplying the powder, the container being opened'and the powder extracted therefrom in the usual manner.-V As this powder is now put up, to be carried around it is necessarylto carry the whole package or to transfer part ofthe powder' to another receptacle, lwhich inay or 'may not be powder tight', so that'theie Vis danger of leakage of the powder.-
It isthe especial object of the present iiivention to provide an improved container' for' bulk powder which'v shall 'be provided with a closure which in itself is a powder f carrier, this closure being constructed to carry a puff, and so that it is practically proof against'accidental loss of powder, this closure forming a cover for thecase or box` in which the bulk powder is packaged, so

Referring now to these drawings, the .invention is illustrated as embodiedin a can of light metal and 'circular in shape. It will be understood, however, that such a can has been Y selected linerely as illustrative, and the invention is not to be restricted t such shape or such material; As shown, howeverthere is provided a can of light instal marked generally l, this can being capacitated to carry the desired amount ofbulk powder indicated by P, as, for instance, a pound.

This closure is associated withA the box body so as to have a tight friction fit and prevent the accident-al escape of powder, and the lid or cover for the closure is so arranged and socooperates with the puff as to effectually seal the powder in the closure and prevent accidental escape of the powder therefrom.
While the specific construction of this vclosure may vary to some extent, it will conform to the shape of the box., both being circular in the present instance. This closure is provided with a central dishe-d portion 11 which isl extended upwardly, as indicated at 12, and then outwardly, as indicated at 13, to form -a horizontal flange. This flange is extended upwardly to form a vertical flange 14 which has a tight friction fit with the inner surface of the walls 2 of the box body. Preferably, the metal of the closure is also bent upon itself, as indicated at 15, to form a flange which will rest :on the top 3 of the walls 2 of the body, this flange 15 extending inwardly and then upwardly to form a vertical flange v16, this vertical flange being bent `upon itself, as indicated. at 17, to form a strengthening rib.
Cooperating with this closure is a cove?.` or lid 18 which is provided with a horizontal rib 19 which rests on the rib 17 of the closure and a downwardly depending flange 20, this flange being slightly longer than thc flange 16 so that it projects below this latter flange. This plate is dimensioned so that it will have a snug fit over the top 3 of the walls 2 of the box, as shown in Fig. 3, this plate when used as acover being in a position reverse to that shown in Fig. 2. This lid or cover is provided with a distributing orifice, which is conveniently formed by slitting and bending up slightly the material of the plate, as indicated at 25 in Fig. 3.

one that isconvenient to use, both in the home and in which a sufficient amount of powder maybe carried separately from the main body as desired. While the invention has been shown and described in a Vpractical form, it will, of course, be understood that certain changes and variations may be made in the structure disclosed withoutdeparting from the invention as defined in theV Vover the powder and prevent escape of powder when the cover is in position.
