The invention relates to new and useful improvements in a combined shipping and dis lay container.
n object of the invention is to provide a metal container having a top end provided with an opening, a cover seat about said opening, an inner fragile closure covering said opening, and a metal cover adapted to frictionally engage said seat for closing the opening, with a similar cover.

The invention is directed to a metal container which may be used for packing food products, which container is so constructed that it may be readily shipped without danger of being broken and which may be uncovered for display purposes without rendering the contents of the container accessible unless the seal of the container is broken. This is accomplished by providin the container body with a metal closing en at the bottom thereof and a metaltop end having an opening therethrough. Associated with this top end is a fragile disc of any suitable material which is placed on the inside of the container and secured by the double seam which joins the top end to the container body.
Extending about the opening is a seat for the metal cover and the metal cover is so constructed as to frictionally engage said seat and thus close the container for shipment. The metal cover may be readily removed and the contents of the container viewed through the fragile closure which is preferably transparent and at the same time the contents are not rendered accessible unless the fragile closure be broken.
The bottom end of the container is provided with a cover seat which is similar to the cover seat in the top end and when the metal cover is removed for displaying the contents of the container it is seated on the cover seat at the bottom end of the con tainer. Thus it'is that the metal cover is stored and becomes a unit with the package during display.
Referring more in detail to the drawings, the improved container includes a body portion 1 preferably of metal and of any desired cross sectional shape. A bottom end 2 is secured to the body portion by a double seam 3. A top end 4 having an opening 5 is secured to the body portion by a double.
seam 6. The opening 5 is closed by a fragile disc 7 which is placed within the container on the under 'face of the blank forming the top portion and rolled into the double seam with the top end. This fragile disc makescontact with-the underface of the top end and is supported thereby. The top end is formed with a cover seat 8 and a metal cover 9 is provided with a vertical wall 10 adapted to frictionally engage the cover seat 8 and thus hold the metal cover in place on the container. The cover is also provided with a portion 11 which overlies the double seam preferably to such an extent that it may be readily pried oil.
The end of the container having the fragile closure is attached to the container body by the manufacturer of the container and the cover is seated. The container thus formed is delivered to the packer who fills it with the goods desired to be shipped therein, after which the metal end 2 is secured to the container body by the usual double seaming operation.
The bottom end 2 of the container is formed with a depression 12 which provides a cover seat 13. The cover 9 when removed from the container is placed in engagement with this seat 13 and will be frictlonally held thereon. The seat 13 and the seat 8 are similar in construction. Thus it is that the metal cover may be secured to the conat the same time be displayed.
