provided with yielding inserts making the upper portion thereof readily extensible when the parts of the brassire member are disconnected to permit the wearer toeasily step into the garment, and which inserts when the parts of the brassire are connected are yieldable only to a limited extent determined by the connected, parts of the brassire member, but assist in causing the 11p-- per portion of the girdle to properlyk t the body when in position for use. The garment also preferably includes a reinforcing mein` ber in the front portion thereof to assist inshaping and su porting the abdomen of the 5 wearer. The atures and construction of .the garment will be hereinafter more particularly described. y f
In the drawing Figure 1 is a perspective lview illustrating the garment made in accordancewith this invention.
Fig. 2 is a front elevation on an enlarged scale, and
Fig. `3 isa Vbaclz: elevation on a still larger scale.
present invention as illustrated in .the drawf ing comprises a front member having a central section 10 and lateral sections 11'and 12. These sectins of the front member eX- tend from the upper to the lower edges of the garment .whereb the lowerY portions thereof form parts o the girdle ofthe garment, and the upper portions thereof form parts-of the brassire member of the garment, the upper portions being so shaped and connected as to adequately conform to and to assist in supporting the busts of the wearer. are made of any suitable inelastic material. rlhe garment also includes side members cach comprising an elastic girdle vsection and an inelastic brassire section. Thus in the right hand side member there is an elastic girdle section '13 and an inelastic brassire section 14, and similarly in the left hand side The garment made in accordancewith the The sections of the ,front member of the garment the side member includesanY i l elastic girdle section 15 and an inelastic" brassire'section 16. Completing the continuity of the girdle section there is a section 17 of a back which is preferably made 60 of inelastiematerial. The back member of the garment also includes brassire sections 18 and 19 which are adapted to beconnected and when connected complete the continuity of the brassire section ofthe garment.` 05 Thecentral section 10 of the Ifront member is connected to the lateral section `11 thereof by a reinforcing tape 20: and Asuitable lines of stitching 21. Similarly. the
lateral section 12 of the front member is v'70 connected to the section 10 thereof by a re- `inforcing tape 22 and suitable lines of stitch-y ing 23. The opposite edge ofthe lateral section 11 of the front member is connected to the adjacent edges of the elastic and inelastic sectipns of, the right hand side member by a reinforcing tape 24 and lines of stitching 25. In a similar manner the opposite edgeA of the lateral section 12 of the front member is connected to the vadjacent edges ofthe sof elastic girdle section 15 and the inelastic brassire section 16 of the left hand`side member' by a reinforcing tape 26 and lines of stitching 27. The opposite or rear longitudinal edge of the sections `13 and 1485 of the ri ht hand side member are kconnected to the fa jacent edges of the section 17 ofv the back member and also to the -section 19 thereof by a reinforcing tape 28a'nd1inesLJ 4of stitching 29. In like manner" the o pe` 0. I
site or rear edges of the sections 15 an 16 of the left hand side member are cnnected to the adjacentv edges of the girdle section 1'? and the brassire section '18 of thet back member by a reinforcing tape 30 and lines 95 of stitching' 31.` yIn the side ymembers the section 12 of the right hand side' memberis connected tothe section 13 thereof b a reinforcing tape 32 and lines of stitching 33;
1n like manner the upper edge of the sec-.Lw-
tion 15 of the left hand side member is connected to the lower edge of the vsection 16 thereof by a reinforcing tape 34 and lines of stitching 35. j
1n the upper portion of the girdle section if 17 of the back member 1 employ suitable inserts of elastic material. These' are preferably triangular. vAs illustrated I:in the drawing, there are two of these inserts em ployed. The one at the left hand side ofA il@ I -the reinforcing tape 30 and the lines of stitching 31. Along its opposite edge it is connected to the girdle section 17 by a reinforcing tape 37 and lines of stitching 38. The insert at the right hand sideof the garment is indicated at 39. Along one edge this insert is connected to theside section 12 by the reinforcing tape 28 and the lines of stitching 29. Along its opposite edge this insert is connected to the section 17 by a reinforc- `in tape'40 and lines of stitching 41. It
wi be noted that the u per edges of the inserts continue and comp ete thecontinuity of the upper edge of the section 17 which is continuous with the upper edges of the sections 13 and 15 of the side members of the garment.
In suitable ositions in the back section 17 I ma emp oy suitable stays 42 and 43. Itwill rthermore benoted that the forward edges of'the sections 18-and 19 of the back member extend suiiiciently far below the upper edge of the girdle of the garment as to permit these sections 18 and 19 at the lower portions thereof to overle the upper portions of the back section 17 and to extend over the elastic inserts 36 and 39 therein.A
The rear edge of the section `18 is vprovided with a reinforcing strip 44 to which insuitable positions there are secured eyes 45. Similarly the rearward edge of the section 19 is provided with a reinforcing strip 46 to which in correspondingly placed positions there are secured hooks 47, each hook 47 bef ing adapted to engage one of the eyes d5 for connecting the sections 18 and 19 to oney another. The lower edges of the sections 18 and 19 preferably taper upwardly from the lower ends thereof as indicated at 48 and 49 respectively so that as hereinbetore stated, when connected, the lower portions of the sections 18 and 19 overliethe upper portion of the section 17 sumciently far to completely and 99.
. In the front of the garment I preferably provide a reinforcing member 50 which may be iittedwith a suitable, stayl 51 and which extends between and' has its opposite edges connected in. theli'nes of'stitching 21 and 29 which connect the central section 10 to thelateral sections `11 and'12 of the front member so that this `reinforcing member 59 overlies and is adapted to assist in shaping and supporting the abdomen of the` wearer of the armeni. i
Flirt ermore, as is customary, the garment may be fitted with shoulder straps 52 and 53' of suitable 'elastic or other material, and also with hose supporters 54 and 55 depending from the front member, and 56 and 57 dependin from `the lateral lower portions of the section 17 of the back member.
cover the. elastic inserts `3o,
From the foregoing it will now be understood that the garment made in accordance with my present invention includes a continuous girdle and a brassire member haying thelower edges of the brassire member permanently connected to the upper edges of the girdle member at the front and si e sections thereof, and with the back sections of the brassire member unconnected to the back 'easily step into the garment, and that .when I in position the closed back sections of the brassire member limit the extentto which `the elastic inserts in the back section of the girdle ma be stretched but do not interfere with the unctions of these elastic inserts in assisting in causing the upper portion of the Agirdle to conform to thebody of the wearer.
I claim las my invention: I 1. In an apparel'garment, a front member of inelastic material comprising a section entending from the up r to the'lower edges of the garment with-t e lower portion there ofvforming a part of a step in girdle and the upper ortion thereof a part of a brassire, a 'rein orcing member underlyiii the girdle portionof the `front member for s aping and supporting the abdomen of the wearer, side members each including an elastic sectionfof the step in girdle and an 'inelastic section of the brassire a back member comprising an inelastic section of the step in girdle and inelastic sections of the brassire, and means ,-for connectingl the edges of the inelastic brassire sections of thesaid back member.
