Description
sponding parts.
UNITED S'IAmnsA PATENT OFFICE,
MORRIS RUBENS, 0F NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPRQVEMENT IN POCKET-BOOK FASTENINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 161,159, dated March 23, 1875; application filed January 25, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MoRRrs RUBRNS, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Pocket Book Frame, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 represents a side view, Fig. 2 a top View, and Fig. 3 a vertical transverse section on the line c c, Fig. 3, of my improved pocket-book frame.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre- My invention is an improved means of locking the hinged jaws of pocket-books, cigarcases, &c. The same consists of clasps or catches, which are attached to the jaws, and operate as hereinafter described.
A represents the frame of a pocket-book, cigar or other case,-which is made in the customary manner of two hinged jaws, B, that are fastened to each other, when closed, by means of spring-clasps C. Each jawB is provided, near its center, rwith a c1asp,C, that is soldered or otherwise applied so as to project toward the other jaw, binding on it, and producing thereby a double fastening and secure closing of the frame. To adapt the clasps to operate in this manner they are made concave on the under side. 'Ihey are provided with projecting knobs or buttons D, which serve for the purpose of opening the frame by pressing with the fingers against them in opposite directions, causing thereby the release of the clasp ends from the jaws and the opening of the frame. The knobs facilitate the opening and closing of the pocket-book or case.
I am aware it is not new to provide the jaws of a pocket-book frame with knobs which subserve substantially the same purpose as in my invention.
Having thus described Imy invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with the hinged jaws B, of the spring-clasps 0,1nade concave on the under side, and attached as shown and described, whereby they shut past each other, (without contact-,j and each catches over the opposite jaw.
MoRRIs RUBENs.
