Description

` R. W. PARRAMORE.
. CORSET CLASP AND BRAGE.
(No Model.)
Patented Nov. 4, 1890.
WITN SES:
. MWI/ BY ATTHNEY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
REDDIN W. PARRAMORE, OF ASBURY PARK, NEW JERSEY.
CORSET CLASP AND BRACE.
SPECFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 439,891, dated November 4, 1890.
Application iled April 17, 1890. Serial No. 348,396. (No model.)
T0 a/ZZ whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, REDDIN W. PARRA- MORE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Asbury Park, in the county of Monmouth and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corset Clasps and Braces,ot which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in fastening devices for corsets and their combination with corset steels or braces.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which like figures and letters refer to like parts.
Figures l and 2 show an arrangement whereby the device is applied to a corset-clasp. Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the corset-steels and side view of the clasping device attached to the steels. Fig. 4 is a top View of the, clasp. Fig. 5 is a view of another form of the clasp as combined with the steel.
ln Fig. l, Ais a brace of steel or other suitable material secured to the corset B at one side, and at the other side of the said corset is fastened another brace or steel A', and the brace B is hinged to the brace A as a flap, as shown at b2 in Fig. 5. The brace Ais provided With the tongues b b, with the slots therein b b', also the eyes c, c, and c. The steel A is provided with staples f and f to receive the tongues b b.
Figs. 2, 3, and 4 show the ange B folded down on the steel A', with the retaining and releasing devices or the clasps attached thereto.
The inclined keepers g and g are made to guide and hold the tongues b and b, and the slot B b in said tongues receive the inclined keepers g and g, and are locked over it.
The releasing device 1l is a frame pivoted in the inclined keepers g g, and may be provided at the other end with a strap j. This frame -is so pivoted that when it is lifted by the strap j the tongue b is raised above the keeper g and the clasp is released. Another form is shown in Fig. 5, in which the end of the tongues b b may have for the convenience of the fingers an upward turn, as at k, and the clasp is released by lifting this tongue above the keeper.
In operating my device as a corset-clasp the wearer draws the corset together and introduces the tongues through the staples and over the keeper, and as the end of the tongue passes upon the inclined edge of the keeper its upper surface comes in contact With the cross-bar of the staple, which acts to spring the tongue, which gives a little at that point until the slot passes over the end of the keeper, when :it snaps into place and is securely caught. In releasing it the tongue is lifted, and the resistance of the body of the wearer expands the corset and draws the tongue out of the lock. Thus by combining a brace or steel A', in which the staples f and f are secured, and the two braces A and B', laid upon the brace A and locked thereto by the clasp above described, a very strong brace is made.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In combination with the steels of a corset, a Staple and an inclined keeper attached to the steel or steels upon one side of said corset and a slotted tongue attached to the other side and arranged to pass within the staple and over the inclined keeper, and the. releasing device i, substantially as described.
Signed at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, this 12th day of April, A. D. 1890.
VREDDIN W. PARRAMORE.
