CROCHET HOOK.
Application. filed June 21, 1926.
My invention relates to a crochet hook, and has for its chief object an eye, and an aperture in the opposite end from the hook to arry a separate cord from that being 6 worked by the hook. the said thread being applied at times for alternatepurpose in the process of working.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a crochet hook that may be used for other purposes, such as the drawing of tape through hems or other means prepared in fabric; the said hook functioning as a bobbin.
A still further object of my invention is to provide means whereby one fold of the cord will be in axial. alignment with the shaft of the hook thereby reducing one thickness of the cord when the cord is being drawn double through the fabric.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a crochet hook functioning as a needle.
A still further and very important object of my invention is that in the process of crocheting, an additional cord may be drawn through the loops as a locking means to prevent raveling.
These and other objects will hereinafter be more fully explained.
Referring to the drawings; note that the illustrations are enlarged for convenience of showing the details.
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the crochet hook.
Fig. 2 is an end view showing the aperture.
Fig. 3 is a transverse view of Fig. 1 showing a possible application of the cord.
The structure herein disclosed consists of a shaft 1 having a hook 2 formed on one end thereof functioning as means for crocheting and the like. The extremity of the shaft adjacent the hook is pointed as at 3 tunetioning as a needle or easy accessible means through strands in the process of crocheting.
The opposite end of the needle has a slot 4 diametrically passing through the shaft thereof. Extending through the end adjacent the slot is an aperture 5 concentrically positioned, and in axial alignment with the shaft communicating with the slot; the object of which is to insert a cord 6 as shown in Fig. 3, by which means one fold of" the cord is eliminated when drawing it through fabric for various purposes.
Serial No. lit 59%.
In the process of crochetiag, difiercnt colors may be desired; in such event the eye and aperture in the end of the needle is a convenient and ready means to apply such color, the same being threaded as shown in Fig. 3. Where large strands are being used the doubling of the strands in addition to the diameter of the needle is eliminated as heretofore described. Furthermore the thread being carried by the instrument elim-- inates the use of an extra instrument for he same work which is often misplaced during the process and therefore it is a time saving device in any kind of work to which it is applied.
In the event of drawing tape or extra large cord through hems or apertures placed along the edge of fabrics the slot affords the area required to receive such cord or tape. The crochet hook may be also used as a needle where lieavy thread is to be employed such as sewing sacks or other containers wherein tight woven fabrics are employed. In such event the thread easily drawn through by the elimination of the extra folds on the needle. 7
it will be further understood that in the process of crocheting the needle may be well filled with loops, and at such time it can be drawn through carrying the thread in the opposite end from the hook which locks all of the stitches to prevent raveling.
The structure may be manufactured from metal such as steel, aluminum, brass and the like; or may be made of ivory, celluloid or other composition.
Such modifications may be employ d as lie within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what Icla-im new and desire to secure by Let ters Patent is: p
1. In a crochet hook, a crochet hook having a slot transversely passing through and near the opposite end of the structure from the hook, an aperture in the end of the struc ture concentrically and in axial alignment with the shaft thereof, said aperture communicating. with the slot.
2. In a crochet hook, in combinatio 'vitl a crochet hook, a slottransversely pa. through. the opposite end of the shaft from the hook, said slot- 1 ctioning as an eye, an aperture co-acting t. the slot function ing as an eye, said aperture positioned main i211 alignment With the shaft intersecting the slot and passing out through the end adjacent the slot, all as, and for the purpose de scribed.
3. In a crochet hook, a shaft having a hook on one end thereof, a slot transverse y positioned through the opposite end of the eh: "i, an aperture axially drilled in the end intersecting the slot that a cord may enter the slot and pass through the aperture as means to prevent an extra thickness of the thread doubling on the shaft while being drawn through the fabric.
