SHUTTLE-FEELER THREAD PARTER AND CLAMP.
Application filed May 14, 1926.
This invention relates to shuttle feeler thread parters and clamps for parting and clamping the filling of the outgoing filling carrier or bobbin when replenishment of filling is effected.
It is now the ordinary practice to provide filling replenishing looms with shuttle feeler thread parters and clamps which act upon the filling between the cloth selvage and shuttle to part and clamp the old or outgoing filling end and then carry the clamped portion of such parted filling frontwardly for the action of the temple thread cutter. In some cases the parter and clamp have been mounted upon the shuttle feeler and actuated by the frontward movement of the lay upon call for replenishment of filling and as the shuttlefeeler moved rearwardly the parter and clamp have been opened.
It has also been proposed to actuate the shuttle feeler thread parter and clamp by means connected to the transferring mechanism, so that on actuation of the transferring mechanism the thread parter and clamp would be operated to part and clamp the filling.
The present invention relates more par ticularly to this last mentioned type of thread parters and clamps, and one of the objects thereof is to provide a mechanism of this general character which shall be simple in construction and effective in operation. tion, the threadparter and clamp are mounted upon the shuttle feeler and are connected through a train of mechanism to the transferrer, which, by its downward movement, effect-s actuation. of the parter and clamp when the shuttle feeler is in its rearward feeling position. Such train of mechanism is of rigid character, and to provide for nonactuation or opening movement of the thread parter andclamp asthe transferrer moves to its'initial position, a novel character of mechanism is provided.
The invention andnovel features thereof will best be made clear from the following description and the accompanying drawings of one good form thereof.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of portions of a filling replenishing loomprovided with thepresent invention; I
Fig. 22 is .tion through the breast In accordance with the present inven- Serial No. 109,073.
beam and lay, showing features of the present invention; and
Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail showing one good form of thread parter and clamp.
The loom frame may be of usual construction and at the filling replenishing side thereof has mounted thereon a magazine or hopper 1 containing filling carriers 2 to be transferred to the shuttle on filling replenishment. The lay 3 is of usual construction, provided with the shuttle box t and a transverse recess 5 into which the shuttle feeler may extend when it is moved rearwardly into shuttle feeling position.
Mounted upon the front of the loom, and preferably upon the breast beam 6, Fig. 2, are the brackets 7, one at each side of the loom, having bearings for the transverse or rock shaft 8, from which extends the arm 9, and on the arm 9 is mounted the member 10 providing between the arm 9 and said a member the bifurcated end portions for the reception of a pin 11 mounted on the shuttle feeler 12, which is itself preferably supported at 13 on a bracket 1 secured to the loom frame.
Extending upwardly from the'bracket 14: is the arm 15 having a thread parter and clamp opener or trip 16, which may be of usual construction and act upon the thread parter and clamp as usual to open the parter and clamp as the shuttle feeler moves rearwardly to its shuttle feeling position.
As shown more particu arly in Fig. 3. the shuttle feeler is provided with the thread parting and clamping member 17 which cooperates with a fixed clamping member 18 and the cutting member on theopposite side thereto for parting and clamping the thread. The movable thread parter andclamp 17 is preferably connected to the shuttle feeler 12 at 19, and as such parts may be of usual construction, further description thereof appears unnecessary as they are now well understood in the art.
Mounted upon the dead shaft 20 carried by the magazine or hopper stand is the transferrer 21 having the downwardly extending arm 22 carrying a dog 23 from which projects a pin 24 engaged with a slotted arm 25 connected to the shuttle feeler, the construction bein such that upon rocking movement of t l ie rock shaft 8 through the mechanism, as eaaa'z, shuttle ion -feeler will be moved from its front to its rear position and the dog 23 *ill be raised into the path of the usual hunter carried by the lay, so that on frontwarcL movement of the lay the transferrer will be actuated to effect a transfer of the filling from the hopper to the shuttle. All these parts may be of any suitable construction andas usual in looms of this general type.
Adjustably mounted upon the loom frame is a bracket 26 (Fig. 1) having an outwardly extendingarm 27 and 'providedwith bearings 28 in which is supported a roclr shaft 29; The reel: shaft 29 at its inner end portion has secured thereto a'ri'gid arm'30 to which is pivotally connected at 31 a rod 82, the upper portion of which as shown engages a pin ilfl secured to the movable thread parter and clamp li'. I a
The center of pivotal motion of the rod or push bar 32 about the pivotal connection 31 is such: that the push rod does not effect opening orclosing movement of the thread earlier and clampas the shuttle feeler moves to or from the front of the loom.
Loosely mounted on the r clr shaft 29 is an arm 34 which is connected by a rod 35 to the trair rferrer 21. In the present instance, the transferrer 2l is provided with a pin 36 to which the rod 35 is connected.
Secured to the roclt'shaft 29 is an actuator '37 having alshoulder portion 38 extending laterally therefrom in the path of movement of the loose arm 34 which, described, is connected to the transferrer 21. I
The actuator 37 may be variously contrived as a one-way device and is secured in a rotative adjusted position on the rock rha'ft 29 by a set screw 39, the purpose being to relate the parts of the actuator'to the loose arm 34 that or per actuation of the thread p'arter and clamp may be effected upon downward movement of the transferrer.
Since the arm 34 is loosely mounted upon the rock shaft 29, the shoulder portion 38 of the actuator is extended laterally into the path'of movement of the arm 34 so that upon closing movement of the thread parter and' clamp, the shuttle feeler at such times being in its rearward shuttle feelin osition. As
the transferrer 21 moves upwardly to its initial position, it will have no efiect upon the roclr'shaft 29 and the threadparter and clamp will remain closed, with the result that the clamped end of the thread a, leading to the cloth selvage will be moved frontwardly to position it for the action of the temple thread cutter.
*rewith the dot; 23will be lifted 1 of the hunter carried by the lay and perforce etl'ect downward movement of the transferrer 2].. Such downward movement of the transferrer 21' acts through the connection to rock the loose arm 3% of the rock shaft 29 of the loose arm with the shoulder or projection ofthe actuator which is secured to the reel; shaft 29, the arm 36 will he lifted to effect closing movement of the ln'ead parter and clamp. as the transferrer 21 returns to its initial upward position, the
arm 34 will "have no effect upon the rock' shaft'29.
llfhen the shuttle feele'r is movedfrontwardly following'replemsnment' of filling the thread parter and clamp will remain closed. As the shuttle feeler is moved rearwardly to its'sh'utt-le feeling position and the th: ed porter and clamp are opened by the trip 16, the rock shaft 29 will be rocked contraclockwise to again place the shoulder 38 of the actuatorinto' position to be operated by the loose arnt 3% upon subsequent downward movement of the t ans'fe'rrer. I
From the construction deso'ril'ied it will be clear that the present-invention provides a simple, effective and positive means connected to the transferrer for actuatingthe shuttle feeler thread parter and clamp.
