Description
UNITED sTATEs PATENT oEEioE.
E. M. MURPHY, OF LEXINGTON, ILLINOIS.
MEDICAL RESPIRATOR.
`Specification of Letters Patent No. 16,066, dated November 11, 1856.
To all wiz-0m it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWIN M. MURPHY, of Lexington, in the county of McLean and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Medical Inhalers; and I do hereby declare that'trhe ollowing is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in whichj Figure l is a top view, Fig. 2 is a side section, and Fig. 3 end view.
In Fig. l C is an opening. In Fig. 2, A is a self acting six leaved fan. C is an opening, B is the opening through which the powdered medicine is introduced into the inhaler. In Fig. 3 the opening C is shown again.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention I will proceed to describe the construction and operation of the saine.
The irst thing is the box which is to be lnade of wood or any anticorroding metal, the inside of which should be circular transversely, the outside to be square or circular with the sides parallel planes inside of the box as shown in Fig. 2 is placed the six leaved fan A, the axles O penetrate the sides on which it rests.
D, is the oval hollow mouth piece which is firmly attached to the body of the box, in the manner shown in the drawing Figs. l and 2.
In using this inhaler the medicine is rs reduced to a powder and introduced through the opening B in the side into the interior of the box under the fan A, then introduce the oval mouth piece into the mouth, permitting the concave under side E to rest firmly on the tongue, close the lips tightly and place the thumb over the opening B'then the act of inhaling the air thro-ugh the opening O see Fig. 2, revolves the fan A which fans up the powder in a cloud and is inhaled directly into the lungs.
W'hat I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- The combination with the usual medical inhaler of a fan, A, to be revolved by the act of inhalation in the manner and for the purposes substantially as specified.
EDI/VIN M. MURPHY.
Vitnesses J. W. MAHON, R. N. B. OWEN.
