UNITED STATES ATENT EEIOEo JONAS MOORE, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN BVRICKLAVERS VESTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 160,538, dated March 9, 1875; application led October 30, 1874.
To all whom t may concern:
Beit known that I, JONAS MOORE, of the city of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bricklayers Vests, of which the following is a t'ull description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in whichi Figure lis a view of the vest spread out.
The object of this invention is to make an overvest, which I call a bricklayers vest, which shall t around the neck, so as to cover the collar and shirt-bosom as well as ,the ordinary vest, and which will retain its place when the wearer is in a stooping position, and which will be secured by a single button; and its nature consists in providing the body of the vest with two strips or ties, running from the collar back of the shoulder around to the front.
In the drawing, A represents the body or" the vest; B, the strips or ties; C, the collarband; D, the button, and E the button-hole.
This vest is made of any suitable material, and is cut to come up to or near the chin, and the neck-band passes around and buttons with a single button from behind. From this band C narrow strips of cloth pass down, and are connected with the body A, as shown. The strips B are made a part of the body, and connected with the collar-band, so as to present a continuous `line from the button-fastening down to, or nearly to, the bottom of the vest. This arrangement of these strips B forms a brace or tie for the bottom of the Vest, and holds it close to the body in a stooping as well as in an erect position.
These strips or bands B do not interfere with the free movement of the arms, and prevent the lower portion of the vest from swinging forward whenever the wearer stoops, without the use of any additional band going around the person, thus making a complete vest, which is easily put on or removed, which does not require any special fitting, and completely covers the vest and shirt-bosom.
I have called it a bricklayers7 vest for the reason that it is more especially designed for the use of masons; but it will be found useful in a variety of occupations, and for other purposes.
What I claim as new is as follows:
As a new article of manufacture, the bricklayers vest herein described, having the body A, strips B, and collar C cut and combined to form the arm-holes and bracing-support, as specified and shown, whereby the vest is held in proper position on the person without the use of a waistband, as set forth.
