UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.,
JOHN D. SEAGRAVE, OF WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN FAUCETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 160,354, dated March 2, 1875; application filed September 26, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
- Be it known that I, JOHN D. SEAGRAVE, of the city and county of Worcester, State of Massachusetts, have invented certain Improveniente in Faucet, of which the following is a specification:
My invention is intended to provide a faucet that may be left in the barrel or head without being in the way or liable to be injured by handling` in transportation, and which can only be operated by a key.
Its nature is plainly shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l shows a side view as inserted in a barrel or head, and Fig. 2 is sectional view of the same.
A is the barrel, B the case or body, and O its flange, by which it may be secured to A by screws or similar means. B is hollow, with a diaphragm, D, having an aperture, d, which is covered by the pad E to close it. The pad E is operated by the screw F, the outer end of which, at f, is fitted to the key. Gr is the mouth or discharge, in which a tube or coupling-pipe may be screwed, if desired. J is a strainer covering the inside of the faucet, with ample openings for the flow of liquid when it is opened, which is done by placing the key on F and turning it, which draws the pad E away from the opening in D, and by reversing the motion of F the pad E is screwed down on D, closing it tight. The outside of B may have a thread cut on it and be screwed into the barrel, and thus be used with or Without its iian ge, as desired.
What I claim, as new and desire to patent, 1s-
The faucet described, consisting of the case B having a chamber, H, and pad or valve within said chamber operated by screw F with a key, in combination with the diaphragm D and strainer J, constructed and operating in l the manner and for the purposes above set forth.
JOHN D. SEAGRAVE.
