Description

F. BRENNER COCKS AND FAUCETS;
No.180,4:56. Patented Aug. 1, 1876.v
N. PETERS FHOTO-LITMOGRAFEER, WASHINGTON D C.
UNITED STATES PATENT QEEIcE FRIEDRICH BRENNER, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO PHILLIP LOHR, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN cocKs AND FAUCETS,
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 180,456, dated August 1, 1876; application filed May 31, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRIEDRICH BRENNER, of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Draw-Cocks, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanyin g drawings.
The object of my invention is to facilitate the drawing of beer, wine, or other liquors from one cask to another.
Figure l of the accompanying drawings represents a plan, and Fig. 2 a sectional view, 0 being a screw-threaded barrel with an eccentric chamber, into which the plug 1) is fitted. A perforated diaphragm is formed across the interior of the barrel 0, near the inner end thereof, for the purpose of arresting any foreign matter that may get into the cask from which liquid is drawn. On the end of the plug b is a plate, a, made large enough to cover the end of the chamber f. In the plug 1) is a hole, d, and alike opening, 0, in the partition I of the barrel 0.
In using the device the screw-threaded barrel c is fastened securely into the cask, the plug b being made secure in the same, and in such manner as to allow of its being turned half-way around, whereby the opening d in the plug 1) is brought to coincide with the opening 0 in the partition I, at the same time turning the plate a, making a connection with the inside of the cask and the chamber f,
thence through the openings 0 and 01 into the plug 1), and from this into any conduit.
The advantages I claim for this arrangement are these: By having the plate to cover the opening into the cask I prevent the pitch from choking the valve while the cask is being pitched. While thus avoiding the necessity of removing the cock, I prevent the possibility of agitating the sediment and the loss of any liquor occasioned by hammering the cock into the cask, as heretofore. I claim, also, an advantage in the convenience of making attachments.
I claim as my invention- 1. The screw-threaded barrel 0, having eccentric chamber provided with a plug, as and for the purpose specified.
2. In adraw-cock, substantially as described, the plate a, which serves as a washer to hold the plug in place, and also controls the flow of liquid, as and for the purpose set forth.
3. The combination of the screw threaded barrel 0, having eccentric chamber, the plug 1), and plate a, as and for the purpose specified.
4. The screw-threaded barrel 0, having eccentric chamber and perforated diaphragm, as and for the purpose specified.
FRIEDRICH BRENNER. Witnesses:
