Each outer member likewise consists of a spine 10 adapted to overlie the spine of the under member and to be attached also at its ends to the head band at front and back of the head in the same manner as the spine of the under mem her. To the spine 10, laterally extending ribs 11 are fixed and adapted to be disposed over the hair and between each of the ribs of the under member so as to press the hair downwardly between the ribs of the under member, as shown in Figure 3, so that after the device is removed, the hair will retain the waves thus formed.

It is preferred that the devices be made of celluloid, rubber, pyralin or any other suitable material that can be wound or formed about asteel wire frame. In cross section the ribs of the under members may assume various forms, either semicircular, triangular or other desirable shapes in accordance with the character of wave desired.

The ribs of the upper members are diflel ently constructed and consist of flattened pieces of celluloid or rubber adapted to be fitted between the ribs of the under members in a manner as is shown in Figure 3 to effect the waving of the hair. These ribs 11 may be detachably fixed to the. head band in various ways, one way being to provide them at their ends with the common type of glove fastener 15 adapted to snap over button 16 on the band intermediate the spring clips which retain the ends of the ribs of the under members.

To produce a better waving effect of the hair, it is preferred to provide the ribs of the under members along their upper edges with teeth 17 that are inclined toward the top of the head in order to catch and retain the strands of hair drawn thereover and to likewise provide the ribs of the under members with serrations or teeth 18 that are inclined downwardly in a direction opposed to the teeth of the under members so that they will catch the strands of hair and will pull them down between the ribs ofthe under members in such manner as to give'it a more pronounced wave.

It is to be understood that while I have shown the device as applied in a certain manner, it is not intended that the parts be limited only to this particular manner of application as it is possible by shifting the head band, to apply the parts so that the waves will extend from front to back instead of across the head.

It is further apparent that such devices may be made in various formsand applied in various ways by variations in minor details of construction without departing from the spirit of the invention and for this reason I do not wish to limit the claims of the For the purpose of taking care of the short hair that is not curled by the above described devices, I have provided the curlers as shown in Figure 6. Each of these comprises a clamp 20 made from a piece of spring wire formed in a loop 21 having one end equipped with a round piece 22 about which the hair may be wound and the other end being equipped with a curved member 23 adapted to overlie and to be clamped against the piece 22 to retain the hair thereabout. Over these pieces is fitted a removable clamping plate 25. These curlers may lie hooked onto the head band or left to hang ree.

While it was not primarily the intention to apply heat to the present device while in use, it is apparent that this could be done if desired by the placing of electrical heating elements within the ribs of the waving members and providing means whereby these elements could be connected to a source of electricity Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is:

1. A hair dressing device comprising a head band and paired hair waving device adapted to be detach-ably fixed to said band and having co-operatively arranged ribs between which the hair may be held in waves.

2. A hair dressing device comprising an adjustable head band, an under hair waving member comprising a spine adapted to be attached to the head band and a plurality of ribs extended laterally from the spine across which the hair may be combed and adapted for attachment at their ends to the head band, and an outer member comprising a spine adapted to be attached to the head band and ribs extended therefrom to overlie the hair and to lie between the ribs of the under member.

3. A device as set forth in claim 2 wherein the ribs of the under and outer members are provided with oppositely inclined teeth.

4. In a hair dressing device of the character described, a head band, a spine detachably fixed at its ends to the head band to extend across the top of the head, ribs fixed t0 the spine and adapted to have the hair drawn thereover, a second spine adapted for detachable connection to the head band to overlie the first spine and having ribs fixed thereto to overlie the hair between the ribs of the first mentioned spine.

5. In a hair dressing device of the character described, a head band adapted to be adjustably fitted to the head, a spine fastened at its ends to the head band to extend across the top of the head, a plurality of ribs fixed to the spine in spaced apart relation over which the hair may be combed, a second spine d-etaehably fixed at its ends to the head band to overlie the first spine and 11m 1ng ribs extended therefrom to overlie the hair between the ribs; said ribs bein detachably fixed at their ends to the head %and.

6. In a hair dressing device, a head band provided at its ends with attaching means whereby it may be adjustably fitted about the head, a pair of spines fixed adjustably at their ends to the head band to extend across the top of the head from front to back, ribs fixed to the spines to extend in spaced relation along the sides of the head so that the hair may be combed thereover, and attached at their ends to the head band, a second set of spines adjustably fixed to the head band to overlie the first set and having ribs extended laterally to overlie the hair and to press it downwardly between the first mentioned ribs and means for attaching the ends of the latter ribs to the head band.
