In carrying out the inventionI provide a frame 10 or any desired" si'ze,-shape and material, finished or treated in any preferred manner to have a neat and attractive appearance. In the present instance this frame is-represented as being of elongated rectangular form with'the corners rounded and formed with suitable-holes 11 through whichare passed screws 12'or the like whereby the frame maybe secured- =upoi1 the door near the lower edge thereof. The end por tions of this irame'are'iormedwith openings 13- and 14, 'the'tormer of which has its outermost edge '15 curved' and the latter of i' which has its inner-edge 16 [curved and"- formed with; a projection l7--for a purpose t be described. 1
The nu-mer'al'18 designates the :movable floor engaging armor lever which may conveniently be formed either as a castinger stamping and which is ot-elongated formation preferably channel shaped in I cross section -as clearly indicated-in Figure 5. This member '23 is designed to bear upon the. surface of the floor when the device is in operative position and it will be noted that it will have a sort of suction cup action insuring a firm hold on the floor.
To apply the necessary tension to the member 18 for holding it in operative position and also for holding it in released position, I employ an elongated coil spring 26 of any desired strength, which spring has one end connected with a' transverse pin 27 or the like extending through the member 18. The other end of the spring is connected with a lateral lug. 28 on the free end of an arm 29 pivoted on the bolt 20. The lug 28 is disposed outwardly of and inslightly spaced relation to" the curved edge 16 of the opening 14 and is engageable with the projection 17 which serves as a stop for limitin movement of the arm 29 in one V o b L 1 I n direction. Movement in the other direction is limited by engagement of the lug 28 with the upper edge of the opening 14. To accommodate the lug 28 thc memberlS may have its side toward the frame notched as shown at 30. 1
At the curved edge 15 of the opening 13 is provided a flange 31 engaged by an overhanging hook 32 on themember 18, this de tailed construction being of importance in that bending or displacement of the member 18 with respect to the frame will be prevented. Furthermore the flange 3l and hook 32 coact to define guide means for the member 18 throughout its movement in either possible direction,
Assuming that the device has been constructed, assembled and applied to a door, it will be seen that when the device is in in operative position the parts are arranged as in Figure 1, the member 18 being then in substantially horizontal position and maintained so by the spring. 'At such a time the suction cup is of course out of engagement with the floor and the door may be moved freely in the ordinary manner. At this time the arm 29 is in its uppermost or upwardly swung position with the lug 28 engaging against the upper edge of the opening 14. When the arm is in this position the spring lies above the pivot bolt 20 and its tension acts to maintain the member 18 in its horizontal position.
To render the device operative, it is merely necessary for the operator to press his foot upon the projection 22 and force this end of the member 18 downwardly. During this movement the. tension of the spring upon the arm 29 will cause the latter to swing downwardly into the position shown in Figure .2, the lug 28 engaging against the projection 17. The shifting of the position of the arm 29 results in bringing the spring to a position entirely below the pivot 20 so that the tension of'the spring will hold the suction cup 23 in firm engagement with the Attention is directed to the fact that there i is only one moving part at the front-ofthe frame, the frame being peripherally. flanged as shown so as to define a speci'es'of housing within which the arm 29 operates while concealed from view. .When the member 18 is in its inoperative .or horizontal position it serves as a housing for the spring which is almost entirely enclosedtherein', as shownin Figure 1. For the sake of lightness the framemay be of an extremely skeleton-like form, if preferred, though this is a matter which may be varied to meet the wishes of the manufacturer. I

A door stop comprising a. frame adapted to be mounted upon a door at the lower portion thereof, a member pivoted intermediate its ends upon the frame and equipped at one end with a friction element engageable with the floor, a spring connected at one end with said endof said member, an" automatically shiftable anchor member for the other end of the spring, and coacting' guide elements on the frame and said firstnamed member for guiding the latter during its movement and preventing lateral move ment thereof with respect to the frame.

In a door. holding device, a frame adapted to be mounted on the lower portion of a door, an elongated lever pivoted intermediate its ends vupon theframe, a friction element on one end of said member engageable with the floor, an arm pivoted on the frame, and a spring connected at one end with said arm and having its other end connected with said end of the lever.

A device of the character described comprising a support adapted to be mounted upon the lower portion of a door, an elongated lever pivoted intermediate its ends upon the support, a friction element on one end of the lever engageable with the floor, projections on both ends of said lever serving as pressure receiving portions, an arm pivoted on the support at said pivot for the lever, a spring connected with the first named end of the lever and with said arm, the support having an opening in one end thereof with a curved edge concentric with said pivot, and a guide hook on the lever overhanging said edge. p

A device of the character described comprising a support adapted to be mounted upon the lower portion of adoor, an elongated lever pivoted intermediate its ends upon the support, a friction element on one end of the lever engageable with the floor, projections on both ends of said lever serving as pressure receiving'portions, an arm pivoted on the support at said pivot for the lever, aspring connected with the firstnamed end of the lever and with said arm, the support having an opening at one end thereof with a curved edge concentric with saidpivot, and said arm having a lateral lug extending through the opening at said curved edge and to which the spring is attached.
