j ANCHOR-ROPE PULLEY.
Application inea February 12, i923. serial 110,618,542.
To all lwhom 'it may concern:
Be it known 4that I, JOHN A. HOLZAPFEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city and county of Jackson, State of Michigan, have invented certain newv and useful Improvements in Anchor-Rope `Pulleys, of which the following is a specication. j Y
This invention relates to improvements in anchor rope pulleys. v f
The main objects of this invention are: First, to provide an improved anchorrope pulley adapted to wring the waterfrom the rope as it is hauled in and also one which is well adapted for manipulation from various positions in the boat.
Second, to provideanimproved anchor rope pulley which may be mounted in various positions on various parts of a boat and the anchor rope manipulated from different positions to suit the convenience of the operator.
Further objects, and objects pertaining to details and economies of construction'and operation will definitely appear from the detailed desoriptionto follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following4 specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the.
claims. V
A structure which is a preferred embodi` ment of my invention is. clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application, `in which:
Fig. I is a plan viewy of an anchor rope wringer embodying the features of my .in-v
vention, the pulley block beingshown in one position by full lines and in another position by dotted lines. i
Fig. II is a side elevation.
Fig. III is a vertical section on a line corresponding to line 3 3 of Figs. I and IV.
Fig. IV is a detail section on a lineicorresponding to line 4 4 of Figs. II, 'III and V.
Fig. V is a detail section on a linel corresponding to line 5- -5 of Figs. II and IV.
In the drawing the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows atthe ends of the section lines and similar numerals ofr reference refer to similar parts throughout the several'views.
Referring to the drawing, I. provide a pulley block designated generally by the numeral 1, and comprising a pairxof spaced IV and V.
side plates between which the pulleys 2, 3 and 4 are journaled, the journal 5 of the pulley 3 being supported in slots 6 so that the pulley 3 may move relatively to the pulley 2. The pulley 4 is disposed at the rear of and below the pulley 3 so that the anchor rope as 7 may be passed between the pulleys 2 and 3, over the pulley 3 and under the pulley `4. With 4the pulleys thus arranged, a hauling -pull on the rope forces the pulley 3 toward the pulley 2, thereby securing the vwringing actio-n.
To, provide means for supporting the pulley upon a boat` to permit its convenient operations from fdifferent positions in the boat, I provide albase 8 having a depending The base is provided `with an inclined bearing surfaceA 13' for the pulley block, the bearing surface having an elongated bearing opening 14` therein for the bearing stud 15. The bearing stud has an'elongated headV A16 which may beintroduced through vthe elongated opening 14 when the head is presented longitudinally thereto, but constitutes a retaining member when turned transversely thereof as indicated in Figs.
The base member is provided with a segmental bearing way 17 the stud 15 being positioned' centrally relative 'to this segmentalway. Thg pulley blockhas' a downwardlyofi'set arm 18 engaging the under sidev of this way.` 17 and coacting with the stud 15 in supporting thepulley block for oscillating movement. A. pin19 on the arm 18 coacts with stop portions 2O at the ends ofthe way, preventing the varm swinging out of engagement with the way. The pulley 4 is located at the rear of the bearing stud and the pulley block so that a hauling pull upon the rope 7 swings the pulley block inl thedirection of the pull. i
With this arrangement of parts the device may be mounted, as desired, on the side or at either end of the bo-at and the operator mayv manipulate the rope from any convenienty position with a minimum of binding or snubbing effect, owing to the pulley block swinging into the proper -po-sition. The `structure is also desirable for use wherethe base is permanently secured to some portion of the boat as by means of screws.
I have illustrated and described my improvements in an embodiment which I have found very satisfactory. I have not attempted to illustrate or describey certain modifications which might be desirable, as I believe the disclosure made will enable those skilled in the art to which my invention relates to embody or adapt the same as may be desired.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. In a structure of the class described, the combination with a pulley block provided with a pair of coacting wringer pulleys, one of which is movably mounted relative to the other, and with a guide pulley disposed at the rear of said wringer pulleys, of a base member provided with attaching means and having a segmental way and a bearing surface for said pulley block, said bearing 'surface having an elongated bearing opening therein disposed centrally relative to said way, a bearing stud on said pulley block coacting with said bearing opening and having an elongated head adapted to be engaged and disengaged with said bearing openingv when presented longitudinally thereto and constituting a retaining member when turned transversely thereof, the said guide pulley being disposed at the rear of said bearing stud, a downwardly offset arm on the rear end of said pulley block coacting with the under side of said segmental way, and a retaining pin on said arm, said base member being provided with coacting stops at the ends of said way.
