METALLIC PEN.
Speccaton of Letters Patent No. 15,992, dated October 28, 1856.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, JOHN lViLooX, of the city and county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Metallic Pens; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a top view of pen and holding device; Fig. 2 is a side view of same; Fig. 3 is a section on b o; Fig. t is a longitudinal section of pen and holder; Fig. 5 is a. section on a a.

The nat-ure of my invention consists in the combination of a double pointed pen, with the mechanism by which it is connected with the ho-lder, so as to have either point, at will, brought into position for writing.
In the drawing a represents the pen, pointed at Y,both ends. It is held at its middle by the flanges e of the plate j", as
shown in Fig. 5. This plate f is attached to the slide piece m by a rivet a", so as to turn upon the slide piece, when desired. This slide piece m., is movable wit-hin the ordinary slide n, of the holder II, as shown in Fig. A. The point of the pen, not to be used, is inserted in the opening 0 of slide n. This construction admits of the forma-tion of two pens on a single piece of metal; either of which may be brought into service at will; the other being securely held without injury to itself.
I claim as new and of my own invention, The double pointed pen, in combination with the flanged swivel plate f, and slide piece mi, constructed, arranged and operating, substantially as, and for the purposes set forth. i In testimony whereof, I have hereunto signed my name before two subscribing` witnesses.
