Description
@nimh tetes attnt @Him GILBERT J. FERRISS, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF lCOLUMBIA, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF ANDY BYRON l SYKES.
Letters Patent No. 64,652, dated .ZlIay 14, 1867.
COMBINATION TOOL.
'Litige rlgrhule refresh tu in time Enters intent mitv making mrt ,nf tige sume.
Be it known that I, GILBERT J. FERRISS, of Washington, in the county of Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented a nen' and improved Combination Wrench, Screw-Driver, Brad-wl, (or Gimlet,) and Claw-Hammer; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to theaccompanying drawing, and the letters of reference marked thereon. v
The nature of my invention consists in the combination oi' the four abovenamed articles.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, Iwill proceed to describe its construction and operation.
Figure 1 .is a perspective view with screw-driver as set in groove at side of handle. l
vFigure 2vis nviesr of the lever dropped into its place and fastened by thumb-screw.
4Figure 3 is aview with slide run back to allow the brad-awl (or gimlet) to be raised.
Figure 4 is a viewlot` 'claw for drawing nails.
Figure 5 is a view of brad-awl (or gimlet) raised up.
I construct the handle, as shown at A in the accom panying dra\ving,by cutting a. groove tive-twelfths of an inch deep, half the length on the top; the other half is one-fourth oi' an inch deep to receive lever B. The g l hammer C is made to be firmly fastened to handle A. On the end of hammer C is cut groove d, and covered b v plate e, for the purpose of drawing nails. The slide F works on handle A, and when used as a. Wrench is shoved by lever B'ngainst hammer C to fit the nut, and lever B is then dropped into the groove and firmly fastened by catch g. Ihen it is desired to he retained in `that. position turn thumb-screw z. Brad-aw] (or gimlet) z' is combined by a groove eut in side of handle A, and works on a hinge at end of handle A and under hammer C, when it is required for a brad-:IWI (or gimlet.) Slide F is run back Imvard catch g; the bradawl (or gimlet) is raised up against hammer C; then slide F is run up and lever B dropped into its place and firmly fastened by thumb-screw 7L. Sciicni-drivem' is set lin a groove in handle A on opposite side of brad-owl (or gimlet) z', and works in the same manner us shown by brad-aw! (or gimlct) z', as herein described.
'.Ihut which I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- 'Iho tool, as above described, opcrating'in the ina-nner and for the purpose set forth.v
' GILBERT J. FERRISS.
