IRON HOLDER.
Application filed eccniber 13, 1924. Serial No. 755,729.
This invention relates to a holder or support particularly designed for use in connection with electric or gas irons, and an object of the invention is to provide a support which may be attached to an ironing board and will hold the iron when not in use, and one which is particularly adapted to support the iron and to permit it to swing to one side when the ironing board is raised vfor the purpose of slipping a. garment such as a shirt, Waist or the like, over the board, and which Will permit the iron to swing back into position to be conveniently reached by the ironer when the board is righted or placed in its proper position.
@ther objects of the invention will appear in the following detail description and in the accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure l-is a top plan of the device.
Figure Q-is an end elevation ofthe support or holder.
Figure S-is a side elevation of the support or holder showing it in use.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the improved support or holder comprises a main body arm l -Which is preferably cast or formed of suitable material, and has arms 2 and 3 formed thereon in spaced parallel relation to form a C-clamp and thumb screw L1 therefor Which is adapted to cooperate with the arm 2 for clamping the holder or support upon an ironing board. If it is so desired, a down stroke lateral tooth 5 may be provided on the undersurface of the arm 2 for biting engagement vvith the board to prevent slipping of the connection of the holder with the ironing board.
The main body or arm l has a boss 6 on its upper end, to which boss the forked iron carrier 7 is pivotally connected. As clearly shown in Figure 3 of the drawing, the body l curves inwardly over one end of the ironing board A with the carrier 7 extending beyond the boss 6 on the body l to Which the carrier is pivoted. The carrier 7 is subistantially forli-shaped with its arms 8 and 9 curved for presenting coneaved surfaces up'- Wardly. The concaved surfaces are lined with felt or any other suitable material, as shown at l()D When the iron B is not in use,
it is placed with the handle thereof pivotally resting on the concaved upper surface of the arms 8 and 9, and with the flat surface or face of the iron in a suspended position. When the ironing board A with the device secured on one end thereof is raised out of a normal horizontal-position, the carrier 7 with the iron B suspended thereon, will swing from its inwardly extended position, as shown in Figure 3, on van are to either side of the body l Without altering or endangering the vertically suspended position of the iron B due to the pendulum effect provided by the pivotally suspended body portion ofthe iron by means of the handle therefor on the carrier 7.
lt is, of course, to be understood, that the invention may be constructed in various other manners and the parts associated in different relations, and therefore, I do not desire to be limited in any manner, except as set forth in the claim hereunto appended.
lVhat I claim is in a device of the character described, a substantially Ceshaped clamping foot including a thumb-screw therefor, an arcuately extending body portion formed integrally therewith on the outer side of said foot, said body portion extending over said clamping foot on the longitudinal center line :thereof and terminating in a boss formed on the free end of said body portion, a forked carrier having a lateral rear- Wardly extending boss formed integral thereon intermediate the transverse portion of vsaid carrier and having pivotal connection with the first named boss, said carrier having a pair of spaced angularly depending ends formed integral with and at right angles to said transverse portion of said carrier, said depending ends curved to extend upwardly in a substantially semi-circular forni for receiving the gripping member of a sad iron in a horizontal position, said forked carrier adapted to swing on an arc With a sad iron suspended in a. vertical position thereon.
ln testimony whereof Iaftix my signa ture.
