Description

L. TommAsl,
Baby-Walker. No. 159,720; P'ztemdmwm.
k/GJ. Z C' z 0 a o w STATES PATENT Erica,
LORENZO TOMMASI, OF NEW ROOHELLE, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN BABY-WALKERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 159,720, dated February 9, 1875; application filed December 7, 1874.
To all 'whom it may conccrn:
Be it known that I, LORENZO TOMMASI, of New Rochelle, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented cer-` tain new and useful Improvements in Baby- Walking Assistants; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying,` (lrawings making a part of this application.
My invention relates to that class of inventions known as baby-walking` assistants. It has for its object to provide a ready means for facilitating` the introduction of the child and its securement therein; and with this object in view, my invention consists in forming the top or table portion of the frame with an opening sufficiently large for the ready introduction of the child, and providing said opening with a surrounding circular cushion, (li- Vided through its diameter, and hinged and otherwise fastened, as Will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
'l`o enable those skilled to fully understand the construction and advantages of my improved apparatus, I will proceed to describe the same, referring' by letters to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a Vertical central section of an apparatus embracing my invention, and Fig.
2 is a top view of the same.
Similar letters indicate like parts in both figures.
A represents a rectangular or other shaped bottom frame, provided with suitable casters, a, to facilitate the movement thereof over the fioor. B are upright's erected upon said frame at an acute angle thereto, so that the base of the apparatus will be the first part thereof to come in contact With any obstruction, for ob- Vious reasons. The tops of the uprights B are surmounted with a top or table, O, provided with a suitable ledge, b, to form a receptacle for playthings. lnstead of dividing the frame centrally, as is customary, to facilitate the introduction of the child, I make the circular opening D large enough for this purpose; and in order that the child may be retained and sustained in an upright position I furnish the table portion, around the hole D, With acircular cushion and frame, E, divided centrally, and hinged to the table so as to open outwardly when the child is introduced, and to fold in- Wardly and under his arms when in, so as to retain it in an upright position. Suitable eyes c are provided on the ends of the semicircular cushion-frames, and suitable hooks or bolts d upon the table, to readily secure the cushionframe (which diminishes the size of the opening) in proper position to retain the child.
It will be observed that this construction is much more simple and economic than a central division of the whole frame-work, and the apparatus is also rendered more solid and durable, and less liable to get out of repair.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
An improved baby-walking assistant, having the table portion thereof with an opening of sufficient size to admit of the Vertical introduction of the child, and provided with an independent surrounding cushion hinged to the table, and locked in place to support the child, substantially in the manner, and for the purposes herein described.
Witness my hand and seal to the foregoing.
LORENZO TOMMASI. [L. s.]
