FRANCIS M..MULLIGAN, OF BUTTE, MONTANA.
1 FIGURE WHEELE Toy.
Application filed January This invention relates to improvements in animal toys, especially to that class of animal toys that are adapted to be drawn along the ground. Such as described in my U. S. Patent No. 1,509,020 dated September 16, 192 1. The main object of this invention is to produce a substantially built and'inexpensive toy that will simulate a walking and wabbling animal when motion is imparted to same.
In the present instance, Ihave shown my invention incorporated in a two legged web footed animal, such as a duck, but I do not restrict myself to the simulation of such an animal, as the invention may be incor' porated just as readily'in a toy animal having four legs, web footed or otherwise.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to beliereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In describing my invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a side view of one embodiment of my invention;
Figure 2 IS a top plan view of same.
Figure 3 is a fragmental view of the leg propelling means, shown in section.
Figures 4 and 5 are detail views of the eccentrically mounted angular roller of the invention.
In the accompanying the body of the toy, wood, cut to represent a or skew shaped roller the forward end in the underbody of the toy. This roller 11 is eccentric'all mounted on a pin 13 passing through t e said underbody of-the of the body and at a point about midway of the forward and rear ends of the toy there is suspended a pair of movable legs 14 and 15. These legs 14 and 15. are loosely mounted on screws or studs 16 secured in the'body 10. A pin 17 pivotally balanced in an opening 18, cooperatively connects the legs 14 and t said legs have cut outs or slots their inner surfaces or rod 17.
At the. lower -"15 I provide w drawing 10 indicates preferably made of duck. An angular 11, is provided at .pprtionof the legs 14 and or extensions21 and 22.
r, tilting over due to of and in a recess 12 formed 19 and '20 on' to accommodate said pin 8, 1926. Serial No. 79,937.
To a staple 23 secured to the head 24 I provide a draw strin 25 by which the toy'may be drawn forward y.
It will readily 'be seen that when the toy is drawn along the ground by the string 25 the roller 12, due to its angular peripheral surface, will cause the toy to have a lateral or sidewise wabble, and likewise due to the fact that the roller is eccentricallymountcd it will also impart an up and down sway or wabble ,to the toy. It will also be seen that as the toy is drawn along the ground the toy will tilt to one side and cause one of the ground and impart to it a rearward movement, thus causing the other leg to swing forwardly by meansof the connecting-rod 0r pin 17 until. the said forward moving leg will come in contact with the ground due to the 'angularity of theroller and the action will be reversed; the result being a simulation of a walking and wabbling toy animal, walking alternately on one leg and then on the other leg. f The webs 21 and 22 prevent the toy from falling ovcr as they provide ample ground support surface when the angul-arity of the roller peripheral surface.
When the toy is made to simulate an animal of four legs, two sets of legs and a single roller may be used.
.I desire it to be understood that changes ormodifications in the construction of my toy may be made without departing from the scope of my invention.
Having described my invention what I claim is:
.ing'a b0 y, a plurality of legs pivotally connected to said body, said body having a recess in the lower portion thereof, a skew roller having an axial bore at right angles to the vertical surfaces thereof eccentrically mounted in said recess, ada ted to'sway-the toy in a lateral and up an down direction legs to contact with the lateral and hp and own l 1 100 of the class described, compris-' 1. A. toy of the class described, compris-' and a connecting rod pivotally mounted in said body adapted to alternately transmit motion from one of said legs to the other.
3. A toy of the class described, comprising a body, a plurality of legs pivotally connected to said body, said body having a recess in the lower portion'thereof, a. skew roller having an axial bore at right angles to the vertical surface thereof eccentrically mounted in said recess, adaptedto sway the toy in a lateral and 'up and down direction, a connecting rod pivotally mounted in said body adapted to alternately transmit motion from one of said legs to the other and a web portion extending from each of said .nected to said body, a connect-mg rod pivotally mounted in said body associated with the legs to alternately actuate them, and a skew roller having an axial bore at right angles to the vertical surfaces thereof eccentrically mounted on said body adapted to produce a simultaneous lateral and up and down wabble.
