UNITED STATES PATENT Orrroa ANSIL W. MONROE, OF RAHWAY, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN DOLLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 159.437, dated February 2, 1875 application filed November 9, 1874.
To all whom'it'may concern:
Be it known that I, ANSIL W. MONROE, of Rahway, Union county, and State of New J ersey, have invented a new and Improved Dolls- Head and I hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, and the letters of reference marked thereon, in which the same letter represents the same thing in each figure.
The drawing represents a face view of my invention, partly in elevation and. partly in section.
The object of my improvement is to provide a doll of better material, with more natural hair, and a head capable of adj ustment forward and backward, as well as sidewise, whereby the expression of the face may be varied at pleasure to express different emotions.
I make my improved doll of hard rubber, the wig being the natural pelt of the Angora goat, which can be tacked directlyto thel rubber. The end of the head Ais ball shaped, and rests in a socket of the neck, an elastic band, B, with a button, 0, and pin D beneath it, securing them together and holding the head in any position in which it is placed. This leaves the head free to be turned forward and back, as well as sidewise.
I believe I am the first to make a hard-rubber doll, the first to use an Angora pelt, and the first to, in combination therewith, secure the head so that it can be turned forward and back.
r I therefore claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A dolls head of hard rubber or other material, provided with the rounded neck portion and secured to the trunk by the elastic band B, button 0, and pin D, substantially as described and shown.
