Description

LP. GBABHAM. 'Quilting-Frama Glamp.
PaB-nted Jan.. 26,1815..A
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANGELINE I". GRABHAM, i F MINERAL POINT, WISCONSIN.
IMPROVEMENT iN QUILTING-FRAME CLMPS.
Specification fern-.ing part of Let-tirs Patent No. 159,090,` dated January 26, 1575; application tiled April 25, 1814.A
p clare that the following is a fulland exact de scription thereof, reference being had to the accompanying` drawing and to the letters ot' reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in an adjustable clamp and standardsocket attached to the clamp, all for the purpose ot securing and holding fast the bars ol" quilt-frames at their points of intersection when they are arranged around the margin ot` a bedquilt, for the purpose ot' giving the quilt tension to facilitate its stitching by the manutacturer, and for supporting the frames and quilt at a convenientheight from the floor. The getral iorm of the frameholder resembles the letter U, Figure l, made of cast or other iron or steel. Atthe point ot" one of the jaws ot' the frame-holder, marked A, is a matrix passing through the jaw, in .which works a thumb-screw, B, against the spring C. On the convex side ol" the clamp, at the point D, is securely attached the standard-socket E, for the purpose ot' receiving a standard, by vmeans ot' which the quilt bars or frames are to be supported above the door after being made fast in the frame-holder by means of the ad- `instable thinnb-screw B. t each intersection ot the four fra1nes,\rhich surround the margin ot' the quilt, the frame-holder is to be applied, in a horizontal position, in either angle of the intersections ot' the bars or frames,
by passing the points of intersection Within the cavity of the tra-meholder to its concave surface; and, byv means of the adjustable thumb-screw B, the bars or frames are .securely fastened together at the points of intersection.
rlhe frameholder consists ot' a piece ot cast or other iron, steel, or other meta-l, or Wood,
modeled in the shape of the letter U, in one ot the points ot' which is inserted an adjusting thumb-screw, which screw points toward the opposite point ot the frame-holder. XVithiii the inner surface ot the point in which the thumb-screw is inserted, and bearing'against the inner point ot' the screw, is a spring, which is driven by the thumb-screw against the rameba-r or fabric, and prevents damage by the thumb-screw.- On the convex'surfaee of the frame-holder, and farthest from the thumbscreW, is secure-l5' attached a standard-socket, set parallel with the convex surface, for the purpose ot' receiving a standard to support the bars or frames above the tloor. i
`What claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A clamp for quiltingframes, consisting ot' the U-shaped device, as shown in Fig. 1 ot' the accompanying drawing, provided with the thumb-screw B,.guard, sprin g C, and the standard-socket attachment E, all combinedVt-o operate substantially as and furthe purpose set forth.
