Description

-.TYSEN ORK HOLDER.
(No odel.)
No. 592,181. Patented Oct. 19, 1897.
III
w j sscs Be it known that I, MARY F. TYsEN,a'resi-' Nrrtn STATES MARY F. TYSEN, or JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA.
WORK-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent NO. 592,181, dated October 19, 1897.
Application filed June 23,1897. Serial No. 641,915. (No model.)
1'0 all whom it may concern.-
dent of Jacksonville, in the county of Duval andState of Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in VVork-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to.
he a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and j use the same.
My invention relates to an improvement in work-holders, and more particularly to such as can be adapted for use with a sewing-ma chine or other table, the object of the invention being to provide a simple, cheap, and durable device adapted to be removablyattached to a sewing-machine table or other table so as to hold up dress materials, tailors materials, muslin, cloth, leather, canvas, &c., while the user is sewing, basting, stitching, ripping, hemming, repairing, or otherwise operating upon the goods, and thus permitting the full and unobstructed use of the hands upon any particular part of the work.
With this object in view the invention consists in certain novel features of constructionupon a table at the edge thereof, and B a.
shorter plate to be disposed under the edge of the table, said plates being secured together at one end by means of a block or post 0, or else cast in one piece. The lower plate B is provided in proximity to its free end with a screw-threaded hole for the accommodation of a thumb-screw 1, having a head 2 at its upper end to engage the under face ofthe table. By this means the device can be securely clamped to a table of any thickness. The upper plate A is provided at its edges (preferably at points intermediate of the ends thereof) with lugs 3, which constitute standards between which a lever D is pivotally supported at a point between its ends. The lever D is provided at one end with a lip 4, which registers with a groove 5 in the plate A at a point over the block or post 0. A spring 6 is secured to the top plate A (preferablybetween the lugs 3) and bears at its free end against the under face of the end 7 of the lever, thus forcingithe goods inserted between the lip 4 nected endsof the table-clamping plates A B tion, cheap to manufacture, easy to apply to any table, and they are durable and effectual, in all respects, in the performance of their functions.
Various slight changes might be made in the details of construction of myinvention without departing from the spirit thereof or limiting its scope, and hence I do not wish to limit myself to the precise details herein set forth.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination with a table-clamp comprising two members A and B, one having a groove therein, a connecting-post O, and a screw, of a lever hinged to member A and having a lip to enter the groove in member A, said'lip held normally in yielding engagement in the groove by means of a spring.
2. The combination with a table-clamp comprising two members connected together, the upper member having a groove therein at the end thereof which is connected withthe lower member, and a thumb-screw passing through said lower member of the clamp and adapted to engage a table, of standards on the upper member of the clamp, a clip-lever pivoted between its ends between said stand- In testimony whereof I have signed this ards, a lip at one end of said clip-lever and specification in the presence of two subscribadapted to register with the groove in the upin g witnesses.
per member of the clamp and a spring secured MARY F. TYSEN. t0 the clamp and bearing against the under Vitnesses:
face of said clip-lever at the other end there- GEO. BRANNING,
of, substantially as set forth. V. O. IIILL.
