OIL BURNER. .0
Application filed August 28, 1925. Serial No. 58,634.
Our invention relates to improvements in oil'burners and more particularly to burners for burning oil as a fuel.
The object of our invention is to provide an oil burner of simple, durable and inexpensive construction, especially designed for domestic use, and which is readily portable, easily regulated to the temperature desired and which operates efficiently and economi' cally.
Our improvement consists in the novel construction,'arangement and combination of parts as hereinafter fully, clearly and concisely described; definitely pointed out in our claims, and illustrated by the accompanying drawing, in which;
Figure 1 is an elevation of our oil burner as it is applied to an ordinary furnace;-
Figure 2 is a vertical central section of our improved oil burner; and
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the same.
Referring by numerals to the drawings, designates the oil burner having the V shaped bottom 6, the sides 7 and the con-. tracted opening 8.
Near the bottom of the V shaped bottom G is formed a channel 9 so that the oil from the feed pipe 10 will fiow into said channel until the same is full when the same will overflow and enter the bottom of the burner. By having this channel 9 so arranged the overflow will be continuous around the en -tire channel.
At the bottom of said V shaped bottom is placed a piece of asbestos 11 which will facilitate the ignition of the gases formed.
,At the top of said burner a coil pipe 12 is placed having one end 13 in the center of said burner and terminating near the bottom of said V and the other end 14 secured to the source of supply not shown. On said pipe end 14: is placed a valve 15 of the ordinary construction.
The feed pipe 10 has a valve 16 of the ordinary construction to regulate the supply of oil into the burner.
To operate our invention, the valve 15 is opened to allow the compressed air or steam to enter the V shaped bottom and at same time the valve 16 is opened on the feed pipe which will allow the oil to enter into the channel, and as the compressed air or steam comes in contact with the oil forms a vapor and by inserting)a lighted taper at the top opening of said; urner will ignite the same.
Obviously such a burner may be constructed at a minimum of cost, and further the body having a burner, or heat source, related to the outlet as shown will operate to radiate efficiently, with a relatively low consumption of fuel.
What we claim as new 1. In a device of the class described, a chamber having an inverted cone-shaped bottom closed at the apex thereof, a channel in said bottom, means for supplying said channel with fuel, and means for vaporizin said fuel comprising a steam jet directed downwards with the chamber.
2. In a device of the class described, a chamber having an inverted cone-shaped bottom, a channel encircling said bottom substantially at the central point thereof, means for supplying fuel to said channel and means including a coil pipe disposed in the upper portion of said chamber for supplying "a vaporizing medium to said fuel in the bottom.
3. In a device of the class described, a chamber having an inverted cone-shaped bottom, a Vshaped channel disposed in said bottom and encircling the same, means for supplying fuel to said channel and a fire-resisting material disposed in the apex of said bottom to assist in the ignition of the gases formed.
4. In a device of the class described, a chamber having an inverted cone-shaped bottom, a channel therein, means for supplying fuel to said channel and a fire resisting material disposed in the apex of said bottom to assist in the ignition of the fuel.
5. In a device of'the class described, a chamber of cylindrical shape having an inverted cone-shaped bottom, a Vshaped channel disposed in said bottom and encircling the same, means for supplying fuel to said channel, a fire-resisting material disposed in said bottom to assist in the ignition of said fuel and means for supplyin a vaporizing medium to the fuel in said bottom.
In testimony whereof we have hereunto afiixed our signatures.v
. HENRY STRAUTMAN.
KARL JAUCH.
