This invention relates to a combined display and attention directing card for use in connection with articles of merchandise, and has for its object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a card of such class for quickly directing attention to a particular article of merchandise, as well as further displayingthe properties of the article for the purpose of promoting the sale of the latter. r
A further object of the invention is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth,
a combined display and attention directing card for articles of merchandise, and capable of beingremovably connected to the articleof merchandise with which it is associated and further when connected to the article maintained by the latter in article displaying and attention directing position.
Further objects of the invention are to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a combined displayand attention directing card, which is simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, thoroughly efficient in its use, conveniently connected directly to the article with which it is assocated for the purpose of directing attention and displaying the properties of the article, and inexpensive to manufacture.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views Figure 1 is an elevation of a combined display and attention directing card, in accordance with this invention, showing the adaptation thereof in connection withran article of merchandise.
Figure 2 is a sect-ion on line 2-2, Figure 1.
Figure 3 display and attention directing card, in accordance with this invention.
Figure 1 is a view similar to Figure 3, of a modified form.
Referring to the drawings, 1 indicates a con aine for an art cle o merchandise, an
is an elevation of a combined which is in the form of a rectangular box constructed from a foldable blank and formed with a hinged end closure 2, pro, vided-with a flap 3, which, when the closure is in active position, is arranged against the inner face of the front wall 1 of the box. The hinged closure provides means whereby the contents of the container can be removed when desired. The outer face of the front wall 1 is provided with suitable indicia, as
at 5, to indicate the character and name of the merchandise contained by the boX. A combined display and attention directing card, in accordance with this invention, is adapted to be detachably connected to that end of the box 1 which is provided with the hinged closure 2, and when so connected the card is disposed in a vertical position for quickly directing attention to the article of merchandise as well as further displaying and setting forth the properties of the article for the purpose of promoting the sale of the latter. The manner in which the card is held when connected to the box 1 is shown in Figure l.
A combined display and attention directing card, in accordance with this invention and as shown in Figures 1, 2 and 3 comprises a body portion of substantial height and width and which is referred to generally by. the reference character 6. The body portion inner side of the part 7 The shape of the body portion 6 is such that the major part of itsedge, as indicated-at 10, will be upon a volute curve and the remaining part formed of angularlydisposed portions 11, 12 and 13. The portion 11 terminates at its inner end in the inner end of the part 10 and projects downwardly and at an inclination therefrom. The portion 12 is upon a down ward inclination and extends inwardly from the outer end of the portion '11 to the outer end of the portion 13, and the latter terminates in the inner side of the semi-elliptical part 7 of the body portion 6. The edge portion 13 is disposed at right angles'with respect tothe part 7 of the body portion 6 and is of greater length than the angularly disposed edge portions ll'and 12. The inner side of the part 7 of the body portion 6 is indicated at14. r
The outer face of the body portion 6 is provided With a direction means leading in a direction towards the box 1, and said means consists of the representation of an arrow head 15 and an elongated tail 16, and with the latter conforming in contour to the shape of the part 7 and to the shape of the major portion of the part 8. The arrow tail 1G is in the form of a volute curve, conforms in contour to the part 10 of edge of the body portion and is positioned in close proximity to said edge part 10; The direction means is of .a different color from the color of the outer face of the body portion 6.
The outer face of the body portion 6 is provided with suitable indicia, as at 17, for displaying and setting forth the properties of the article of merchandise with which the card is associated or connected to, and said indicia can consist of any suitable advertising matter.
Formed integral with the inner side of the part 7 of the body portion 6- and spaced from the edge portion 13 of the body portion 6, as well as tangentially disposed with respect to the lower portion of the latter, is a rectangular attaching or connecting tongue 18 of a width slightly less than the height of the wall 4 of the box 1, and said tongue 18 is adapted to be inserted in the box 1, between the flap 3 and the front wall 4, and when so positioned the body portion 6 will be connected to the box 1, at one end thereof, and be held in a vertical position so that the indicia and directing means thereon will quickly direct attention to the article of merchandise with which the card is associ ated, and furthermore set forth the proper ties of such article and which will promote the sale of the latter.
The tongue 18 is set up with respect to the body portion 6 so as to provide a substan tially elongated slit or passage 19 between the tongue and the lower edge of the triangular extension 9. The inclined or bevelled edge part 12 is arranged at the open end of the slit 19 and which prevents the end of the box engaging with the body port-ion 6 during the positioning of the tongue 18 within the box. hen the :card is connected with the box through the medium of the tongue 18, the triangular shaped extension 9, overlaps the top of thebox, see Figure 1, so that when the card is in displayed posit-ion it not only overlaps but projects from that end of the box to which it is connected. The card projects upwardly and laterally from the end of the box referred .to.
In the form shown in Figure 4., the body portion of the card is generally indicated at 20 and is formed of a semi-elliptical part 21 and a segmental part 22 of materially less height than the part 21 whereby the lower portion of the part 21 will be positioned below the l w r n of th part The edge bet-ween the flap 3 and front wall a:
23 of the body portion 20 is upon a volute curve and extending from that portion of the part 21, which is arranged below the lower end of the part is a tangentially disposed tongue 2& of a length greater than the widest portion of the part where the tongue 2% will project beyond said port The lower edge 25 of the tongue forms a continuation of the arc of the edge 23 of the body portion 20.
The vertical edge 26, as well as the edge 27 of the tongue 2% is squared. point of joinder of the tongue with part 21, it is spaced from the lower end of the part 22, as at such point the tongue is of less height than that portion of the part 21, which is arranged below the lower cud of the part lhe outer face of the body portion i=1) is provided with suitabie indicia, as at 28, 1 r the purpose of setting forth the proper ies of the article of merchandise with wnlCll the card is associated, as well as any other suitable advertising indicia. The outer face of the body portion 20 is provided with di rection means extending towards the article of merchandise to which the card is attached. and said direction means is the representation of an arrow having the head thereof indicated at 29 and the tail at 30. the arrow is upon a volute curve and the major portion thereof is positioned in pr u:- imity to the edge 23 of the body portion I.
ion the form of card as shown in Figure 1: is en'lp loyed, the tongue is in erted of the container or box and when so pos ioncd the segmental part 2 of the limody portion 2%) overlaps the top of the box or container. hen the tongue 24 is inserted in the i; or container, the card is maintained in vertical position with respect thereto and not only overlaps that end of the box to which it is attached, but extends upwardly and laterally therefrom.
It is thought that the many advantages of a combined display and attention directing card in accordance with this invention can be readily understood, and although the preferred embodiment of the inyention is as illustrated and de c ibed, yet it is to he un derstood that changes in the details of construction can be had which will fall within the scope of the invention claimed.
