Application filed liovember My invention relates to containers, and preferably to that type of container which is adapted for displaying as well as for shipping the articles contained therein.
port for inclining it for better display which can be made wholly from a single integral blank.
for inclining it for better display and adapted also to-cove'r the top of the container for shipping, the whole to be formed from a 9 single lntegral blank coated on one side only. nature of my invention- In orderthatthe may be clearly understood, I shall firstdescribe in detail the mode in which I at present prefer to carry the invention into practice, and then point out the various-features of the invention in the appended claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specifica tion in which the same parts are designated by like characters in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a plan view of the blank from hic I at present prefer to make my improved container.
Figure .2 is a transverse section of the 'con'--.
tainer as it is shipped, its support being in position to act as an outer protective cover for the container,
Figure 3 is a transverse section ofst-he con,- tainer arranged to-display the articles con; the support being in position to incline the container.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the. container arranged to display the articles contained' therein. 1
Referring now to Figure 1, the integral I blank from which I now prefer to make my improved container. i's-denoted by numeral 6. The bla'nk'is preferably made from stock coated on one s de only, and, in this embodiment of the invention, 1s coated on that side (which forms the outside ofthe' container when said blank is set up to form a con tainer, 'so that advertising matter may be printed on the coated side.

At the junctions of front portion 8 with bottom portion 7 and top portion t), I- prefer to provide slits 24 .and 25 respectively, for purposes which will hereinafter appear.
In this instance, when the container is used to display its contents, I prefer to cut out the top portion 9 as shown in Figure '1. The top is out along 'theirregular line 26, and semi-circular line 27, so that when the out out portion is first bent up along the-line 28 and then down along lines 29, the portion 30 will serve as a display card (see Figs. 3 and A). I also choose to cut slots 31 in the cut out portion 1, and slots 33 in'the top portion 9, the purpose of tongues 32 and slots 33 being explained hereinaften' In setting up the flap 16"is. portion 7 along line 34.

' nation and is to be Yard portion 14 is bent as thus described, the cut-out As the container handling is subjected to various pressures, it is deemed advisable to protect the container in some manner. I choose to accomplish this result by means of the integral support portion 13, and in the followin' manner. After the container is set up and the desired goods inserted therein, the standup along line and the base porti n is thenbent forwardly The tongue 23 is then bent down along line 47 and inserted in slit 25, thus forming an outer protective cover for the container .in sl1ipment (see Fig. 2).
When the container has reached its destiset up for display by the retail merchant, the tongue 23 is withdrawn from slit 25 and the support 'rtion 13 bent downwardly along line 45 instead of upwardly. The base portion 15 is then bent forwardly along line 46 and the tongue 23 inserted in slit 24 (see Figures 3 and 4). I thus form a base and standard for inclining the container in order to better display its contents.
When the container is set up for dis lay portion 0 the top 9 is bent up along line 28, and then down along lines 29. The tongues 32 are then inserted in slots play card so formed firmly in place.
It will be seen from the above description that I have provided a display container.
and an integral protective cover therefor which may be use also as a support for incli'ning the container in order to better display its contents.
I attain important economies in manufac ture by the use'of my invention because I can use a blank made'from stock coated on one side only, and because I. use a single during shipment and the container top 33, thus supporting the dis-' form a base tegra-l blank and having a bottom portion,
a front portion integral therewith and bent up fromthe bottom portion, a top portion integral with the front portion and bent backwardly fromthe front portion, integral end portions bent down from the top portion, a back ortion integral with the top portion and bent down therefrom, and a portion integral with the back portion adapted to be bent downwardly to form a standard and forwardly to form a base to incline the container, and to be reversed to fornian outer backand outer coverxfor the container.
2. A" blank adapted to be bent to 'form a container comprising a container top portion, container end portions at each end of with, a container 4 ront portion integral with and on one side of the container top portion, a container bottom portion integral with and on the other side of said container front portion, a container .back portion integral with and on the other side of the container top portion, and a portion integral with and on the other side of the container back portion and adapted to be bent downwardly to form a standard and forwardly to to incline the container, and'to be reversed tovform an outer back and outer cover for the container. 7
In testimony whereof I afiix m GEORGE N. HE FRIOH.
