Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 158,797, dated January 19, 1875; application filed December 24, 1874.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES L. HOLLIDAY, of the city of Wheeling, State of West Virginia, have invented a new and useful Article of Manufacture, of which this is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to an improved parlor coal-scuttle, consisting of a coal-compartment inclosod on four sides by a case, to which it is attached at the lower front edge by means of hinges, in such a manner as that it may be lowered from an upright position to an angle convenient for shoveling the coals. It is supported at the desired angle by a movable leg attached to its front by means of a hinge, the whole forming a useful and ornamental article of furniture.
Figure l is a perspective view of the scuttle. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same when closed. Fig. 3 is a section of the scuttle, showing the coal-compartment.
Ais the outside case. B is the eoal-compartment. B B are hinges uniting the case and coal-compartment together. 0 is a movable leg hinged to the front of the coal-compartment for the purpose of sustaining it at the desired angle.
I do not claim the invention of a pivotal revolving bin, as embodied in the patents of O. R. Oowgill, No. 105,310, July 12, 1870, and W. B. Smith, No. 108,403, October 18, 1870.
1 claim as my intention- The combination of the case A, the coalcoinpartment B, and the movable leg 0 with each other, and with the hinges D D and the hinge fastening the movable leg to the front of the coal-compartment, substantially as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
JAMES L. HOLLIDAY.
